Job Description

 

Union Square Hospitality Group is seeking an Assistant Wine Director to join the team at Union Square Cafe!

 

The Assistant Wine Director of Union Square Cafe will work with our Wine Director to thoughtfully compile our wine program in a way that adds quality and value to enhance our guest experience. The Assistant Wine Director will be responsible for assisting with our creative vision and focus, and to design and organize our beverage education programs and initiatives. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with Wine Director, accounting team and operations team to ensure that all budgeted cost percentages are met each period
  • Ensure that all beverage changes are executed properly with necessary communication and education in mind.
  • Ensure that all POS systems, inventory systems, beverage lists and any other information related to the selling of wine and beverage are understood by the team and remain accurate and up to date.
  • Establish and foster strong relationships with beverage purveyors in order to ensure that USC receives the best product and pricing available and maintains a strong reputation as a category leader in the industry.
  • Maintain key relationships with other beverage managers and directors within USHG.  Show commitment to sharing best practice and learning from a family of professionals.
  • Coordinate beverage events for the restaurant when appropriate.
  • Work with Private Events Sales team to ensure highest quality of product, service, and profitability in Private Dining.
  • Cultivate regulars and continue to find ways to strengthen the USC community.

Requirements and Skills:

  • Strong Computer Skills/Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point)
  • Excellent Beverage knowledge – including beer, wine and spirits
  • Excellent understanding of beverage inventory and cost management
  • Excellent knowledge of restaurant service team roles
  • Strong Communication Skills (verbal/oral/listening)
  • Strong People Management Skills
  • Understanding of Restaurant Systems (POS/OT/Avero)
  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university preferred
