Join our Gramercy Tavern Family as an Assistant General Manager!

Union Square Hospitality Group has tremendous growth on the horizon in New York City and we are looking for experienced servant leaders with previous fine dining restaurant management experience to join our Family. 


The Assistant General Manager's main responsibilities include: 

Work with Executive Chef and General Manager to establish and achieve clear profitability and operational performance goals and metrics.

  • Organize the creation of realistic budgets that drive the businesses to financial success while maintaining the excellence of the brand. 
  • Work with Controller, Exec. Chef/GM and management teams to create periodic financial forecasts and prepare period forecasting meetings
  • Review all purchases and labor with the appropriate members of the management team.
  • Supervise team to maintain the excellence of the physical plant by working with the managers to address repair and maintenance issues in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Work with the management team to achieve individual performance goals and metrics that grow the business while strengthening the brand and culture.

  • Hold team accountable to achieving goals and strategic plans.
  • Perform annual performance reviews for each employee to monitor performance and to set goals for each year.
  • Ensure that all team members understand and can articulate the key elements of the brand.
  • Maintain or improve external recognition (Zagat, NYT, Michelin, James Beard, etc.).
  • Meet or exceed DOH regulations for sanitation by ensuring an “A” letter grade on all sanitary inspections.
  • Ensure the uncommon excellence of every food and beverage item offered.
  • Be attentive and adjust every aspect of the guest experience as needed to ensure an uncommon hospitality and excellent experience.
  • Ensure a clean, beautifully maintained décor that fits the brand.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to connect with our community internal and external to the Restaurant.

Continuously attract, hire, and retain a team for all FOH positions and develop the next generation of USHG leaders.

  • Attract and retain talent through networking and relationship building.
  • In conjunction with designated annual review periods, analyze and approve all pay increases.
  • Oversee the selection process for team members.
  • Ensure the excellence of front of house training programs.
  • Coordinate and ensure the excellence of daily and monthly training.

Ensure that the Restaurant continuously delivers uncommon hospitality and excellence to its guests.  Actively embody, inspire and teach the tenets of Enlightened Hospitality to all.

  • Ensure every employee has the capacity to be one of the top three performers on their team in both Hospitality and Excellence.
  • Build the culture of enlightened hospitality by ensuring excellent hiring practices, training, and work environment.
  • Be attentive and adjust every aspect of the guest experience as needed to ensure excellence.
  • Direct entire management team in strengthening relationships with regular guests.
  • Serve as an outward facing ambassador of the Restaurant to the community.
  • Actively encourage new, local, community service initiative ideas at the restaurant level and engage staff participation.
  • Direct management team to continuously generate raves from guests.




Skills/Requirements
  • 3 + years of fine dining restaurant management experience
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal/oral/listening)
  • Excellent dining room operations knowledge
  • Excellent food and beverage knowledge
  • Understanding of how operations can impact the cost of goods
  • Problem solving & delegation
  • Initiative & follow through
  • Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point)
  • Understanding of restaurant POS systems
