Position Overview
Skillsoft is currently seeking a talented Senior Systems Engineer with 5 to 7 years of technical experience and 2 to 3 years of leadership experience to provide hardware and application support for the Information Technology Department.
The Senior Systems Engineer plans, designs, develops, troubleshoots and implements software and system solutions across multiple platforms and architectures to support IT Infrastructure requirements. The Senior Systems Engineer also performs preventative maintenance procedures to ensure equipment has latest releases, patches, and/or fixes applied. The Senior Systems Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues to maximize the business value of IT systems investments.
Position Responsibilities
Responsible for the day-to-day operation of server resource; routine administration, preventative maintenance, monitoring and decision making during critical failures, deployments and projects
Conduct research on software and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts
Collaborate with network staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes
Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems
Propose and create system design models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to system programmer and development teams
Design and perform server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company*s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies
Integrate servers, including database, e-mail, print, and backup servers and their associated software into enterprise systems
Ensure system connectivity of all servers, shared software, and other applications
Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records
Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems
Coordinate and perform in-depth tests for new systems and upgrades
Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports
Act as a point of escalation and information resource other members of IT
Participates within the global IT teams to ensure a highly available global IT infrastructure
Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures
Participates / Lead Projects for internal/external collaborative and deployment
Provide mentoring and training to system administrators
On-call 24x7 rotation schedule (includes cell & pager)

Proven experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software systems, applications, and related products
Proven experience with systems planning, security principles, and general software management best practices
Software and hardware troubleshooting skills are essential
4-5 years of experience with Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory and Group Policies, Microsoft SharePoint
3-5 years of experience with Microsoft SQL server and IIS
2-3 years of experience with VMware Server Virtualization and SANs
Experience with scripting language, Web, and SQL programming on Windows platform
Thorough understanding of DNS, DHCP, WINS, FTP, SMTP, SNMP, TCP/IP and Terminal Services
Experience with evaluating, recommending, and implementing systems monitoring tools
Competence with testing, flowchart, and data mapping tools and procedures
Excellent project management skills
Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities
Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a dynamic environment
Strong customer service orientation
Education and Certifications
Bachelor's degree preferably in a technology discipline or an equivalent combination of training, vendor certification (MCSE/MCITP) and work experience
