Prep Cooks

to join the team!

 

 

We are seeking Prep Cooks to be a part of the team that brings to life our renowned New York City dining experience. Union Square Cafe Prep Cooks are ambassadors for our mission: To be the place in New York City where “Going out, feels like coming home”. This role will excel at cooking in our fast-paced, dynamic cafe, while executing each dish’s design with excellence. This position actively embodies, inspires, & elevates USHG’s Family Values of Excellence, Hospitality, Entrepreneurial Spirit and Integrity. Our ideal candidate will excel under pressure and have a passion for the Green Market.

Service periods will include Lunch, Brunch, and Dinner

 

Union Square Cafe will proudly operate under Hospitality Included, USHG’s non-tipping pay structure and career progression model. Hospitality Included acts to close the wage disparity between the BOH and FOH, while keeping the FOH whole. Hospitality Included provides a career progression model that activates growth levels within each position, for our team members to advance both financially and professionally.





Skills/Requirements
  • 1 year NYC fine dining experience in a position responsible for preparing and cooking plated food
  • Ability to execute and maintain the preparations, recipes, mise en place, and service of any assigned station
  • Have a basic knowledge base of classic cooking techniques and ability to demonstrate these techniques including, but not limited to; baking, frying, sautéing,and garde manger.
  • Ability to demonstrate proper knife-skills and work space tidiness in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to maintain mental athleticism while coordinating with other stations to ensure proper timing of pick-ups
  • Strong professional communication skills
  • Ability to maintain and ensure proper plate presentation and cleanliness for each dish
  • Stay up to date on menu changes for all Brunch, Lunch, Dinner and Dessert shifts
  • Have knowledge of Department of Health (DOH) standards

 

Certifications

  • Culinary degree or certificate
