Job Description

 

Primary Purpose of the Position
This vital position serves as an integral business partner to the VP of Finance and Controller. It ensures the accounting process is accurate and reliable and internal control procedures are followed throughout the Company. The Accounting Manager develops and implements systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying and reporting financial information as well as managing accounting staff.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Obtains and maintains a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
  • Ensures an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close and financial reporting process including; preparing journal entries and performing account reconciliations.
  • Collaborates with the other department managers to support overall department goals and objectives.
  • Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
  • Responds to inquiries from the VP of Finance, Controller, and other managers regarding financial results and special reporting requests as well as performing variance analysis.
  • Works with the Controller to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit.
  • Supervises the accounts receivable and accounts payable groups to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met.
  • Provides training to new and existing staff as needed.
  • Handles personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
  • Works with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advice on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.
  • Supports Controller with special projects and workflow process improvements.

Educational and Experience Requirements 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area, preferably with a manufacturing, distribution and/or retail company.
  • Strong managerial, project management and organizational skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; Master’s degree and/or CPA preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing best practices in an Accounting department.
  • Exceptionally strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail, but ability to summarize into key points/ actionable items.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities.
  • Proficient in ERP systems and MS Office application suite.
  • Be comfortable and confident working in a fast paced, dynamic, and high growth environment.
