Position Summary
Directs and manages the inpatient and surgical outpatient coding/abstracting activities of St. David’s Medical Center and St. David’s Rehabilitation Center.    Responsible for ascertaining complete, accurate and timely  coding in compliance with CMS, Coding Clinic guidelines and HCA Corporate Policies and Procedures.   Responsible for educating the Medical Staff and other clinical staff regarding complete and accurate documentation
as it relates to coding, data accuracy, and reimbursement.  Responsible for analyzing a variety of reports for coding trends and variations and reporting the findings to the Director.  Responsible for maintaining  up-to-date knowledge base in order to implement coding and process changes in response to reimbursement changes.  Attends Medical Staff meetings as needed for physician education.  Works closely with Clinical Documentation liaisons. Works with other departments to resolve data and reimbursement issues.   Codes records routinely to maintain current skills in coding.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required:
1.                  High School Diploma
2.                  One of the following:
A.                 RHIT, RHIA or CCS with 3 years acute care hospital coding experience
B.                 If not credentialed, must be credentialed within 6 months of hire
Preferred:
1.         For CCS only, 2 years college education.
 
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:
Required:
Registered Health Information Administrator or Registered Health Information Technician required or CCS (Certified Coding Specialist)
