Job Description

Lighthouse Academies (LHA) is seeking entrepreneurial and passionate principal to open our second charter school in the South Bronx.  Building on the success of our first school, Bronx Lighthouse Charter School, LHA is expanding to provide more opportunity and access to college for families living in underserved areas.   Metropolitan Lighthouse Charter School (MetLCS) is planned for opening in the 2010-2011 academic year with 138 students in grades K-2.  We are seeking the FOUNDING PRINCIPAL now with an expected start date of September 2009 to have a year to plan and execute a successful opening.

LHA is a non-profit charter school management organization operating 10 schools across the country and is working to expand to Jacksonville.  LHA provides school choice for families in high need, urban environments that have been historically underserved with the mission to  prepare all students for college through a rigorous ARTS-INFUSED program. 

LHA Principals are more than school leaders and managers.  They also work in the spotlight of education reform and catalyza change in their communities.  We are seeking school leaders who lead with determination and integrity, and embody the following essential qualities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Principal is an instructional, operational and strategic leader.  Our principals are charged with making significant and measureable gains in both academic achievement and life opportunities for our students.  Ultimately, our school leaders are responsible for implementing the mission of our schools.  The following are the ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS of a Lighthouse Academies Principal of a fully operational school. 

INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP

  

I. DATA ANALYSIS

  • Lead the school team in reaching the eight network goals; align these and related goals to the charter and LHA model.
  • Manage all school programs in a manner that ensures efficiency, effectiveness and compliance. Evaluate programs and make changes, as necessary, that are in line with the charter and the LHA model.

II. Professional Development

  • Serve as instructional leader and supervise all staff and program activities. 

III. CULTURE of ACHIEVEMENT and RESPECT

  • Provide the collaborative leadership necessary to implement the school’s mission. Coordinate work and collaborate with the LHA network.
  • Create a school culture (staff, parents and students) focused on academic achievement and embodiment of the LHA school culture model. 
  • Confer with the Board of Trustees as needed.

OPERATIONAL LEADERSHIP

I. MANAGEMENT

  • Implement the school’s charter and the LHA school model with fidelity.
  • Establish and manage daily school operations and procedures.
  • Manage and oversee school budget, ensuring that all financial transactions are completed in accordance with LHA policies and procedures.

II.  CULTURE of ACHIEVEMENT and RESPECT

  • Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate staff, and complete any other personnel actions, in accordance with LHA policies and procedures.
  • Conduct and supervise marketing of school.




Skills/Requirements
Education:  Masters Degree in Education, Education Administration or Teaching
 
Experience, KNOWLEDGE & Skills:         
·   Five (5) years teaching experience.  Three (3) years of school administrative experience.
·   Training and implementation of LHA curriculum programs
·   Turning best practices into high quality, goal-driven results
·   Proven track record of closing the achievement gap
·   Collaborative leadership and School-based decision making
·   Education law and regulations; federal programs initiatives; student support service programs
·   Data managements tools, organizational tools, computer skills
