Job Description

The Food and Nutrition Department in the Manhattan Nursing Home is seeking a full time Diet Technician to join our team! This position is onsite and will report to this address: 120 West 106th Street, NY, NY 10025.

Job Summary:          

Under the guidance of the Clinical Nutrition Manager, is responsible for the operation and implementation of the Nutrition Care Program based on established objectives, standards, policies, and procedures, as well as local, state, and federal regulations. Assists in the maintenance of sound inter-departmental relations and the integrating of the dining service department with the facility plan of operations. Assists with the provision of nutrition care throughout the community.

Reports To: Clinical Nutrition Manager

Duties and Responsibilities:

·          Embraces the philosophy of the community and utilizes these as the foundation for the execution of their job description.

·         Assists in providing quality food and an enjoyable dining experience for residents, guests, and staff, eliminating food as an issue for Administration.

·         Assists dietitian with the administration of the Nutrition Care Program as per established standards, as well as state and federal guidelines, assuring     inspection ready” status at all times.

·         Administers safety, sanitation, security, and maintenance programs as assigned.

·         Assists with excellent relations with clients and residents and close working relationships with dining service supervisors, employees and other           community departments.

·         Serves on committees and in professional organizations, as required.

·         Attends Resident Care Committee meetings as designated by dietitian.

·         Responsible for the completion of dietary histories, resident care plans and pertinent charting in medical records within a timely manner to maintain     compliance, as assigned.

·         Performs dietary counseling, as designated.

·         Acts as Team Leader as assigned by Director of Dining Services.

·         Provides nutrition information to individual residents, as designated. Participates in wellness activities as applicable in the community.

·         Participates, as assigned, on special projects for the department including participating in nutrition internship rotations at the facility.

·         Insures that competency in the position is maintained by participating in assigned and outside training programs.

·         Participates in implementation of changes in the Nutrition Care Program that enhance the desirability of the community for current and future residents.

·         Maintains security of all client and Morrison Living property (i.e. Gerimenu, My Unity)

·         Does not divulge company policies, procedures and systems to unauthorized individuals.

·         Copes with most problems - confers with supervisor on unusual problems.

·         Performs any other duties, as assigned.






Skills/Requirements

Specialized Skills and Competencies:

·         Ability to read, write, speak clearly and understand English.

·         Possess good communication skills, both oral and written.

·         Ability to use business math concepts.

·         Ability to get along well with others, to demonstrate flexibility and patience, and to work as a member of a team.

·         Must be of good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.

·         Must be able to cope with the emotional and physical stress of the position.

 

Age Related Skills and Competencies: 

  • Demonstrate a high level of sensitivity and interest in people, particularly older adults

 

Job Qualifications:

·         Possesses a comprehensive knowledge of dining service operations, therapeutic diet supervision, and public relations. It is required that the individual be a minimum of a Certified Dietary Manager, a Diet Technician, possess a baccalaureate degree with a State approved major, or be a Registered Dietitian. This requirement is in addition to any other requirement of the State in which the community is based. If not already ServSafe certified, it is expected that the Diet Technician become certified within one year from acceptance of this position.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and capable of lifting 35 pounds or more.
  • Capable of sitting for extended periods of time, as well as standing and maneuvering independently and safely around kitchen, office, and storage areas.
  • Capable of standing on concrete flooring for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to see and hear, or to use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that position requirements can be fully met.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to operate a fire extinguisher, manipulate kitchen equipment and operate all office equipment.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
