Job Description

Reporting to the Principal, MetCPA Foreign Language Teachers will be responsible for transforming children’s lives by creating opportunities for a brighter future.  LHA teachers are more than instructional staff members and classroom managers.  LHA teachers make the commitment to teach with determination, integrity, and purpose.  

This individual will be the strategic and tactical in the following areas:

  1. (15%) Planning and Preparation - Planning and preparation includes how a teacher organizes the content of what scholars are expected to learn---in other words, how the teacher designs instruction.  These areas include demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy, demonstrating knowledge of the scholars, selecting instructional goals, demonstrating knowledge of resources, designing coherent instruction, and assessing scholar learning
  2. (15%) The Classroom Environment – Classroom environment focuses on interactions that occur in a classroom that are non-instructional. These consist of creating an environment of respect and rapport among the scholars and with the teacher, establishing a culture for learning, managing classroom procedures, managing scholar behavior, and organizing the physical space.
  3. (60%) Instruction - The components of Instruction are what constitute the core of teaching – the engagement of scholars in learning contest. These include communicating clearly and accurately, using questioning and discussion techniques, engaging scholars in learning, providing feedback to scholars, and demonstrating flexibility and responsiveness.
  4. (10%) Professional Responsibilities – Professional responsibilities represent the wide range of a teacher’s responsibilities outside the classroom. These include reflecting on teaching, maintaining accurate records, communicating with families, contributing to the school and district, growing and developing professionally, and showing professionalism. Teachers who demonstrate these competencies are highly valued by their colleagues and administrators, as well as being seen as true professionals.




Skills/Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree Preferred (Bachelor’s degree required), preferably in Education and/or Foreign Language (Spanish)
  • Classroom experience (scholar teaching and/or full-time classroom experience)
  • State teaching certificate
  • Desire to work within an innovative, urban educational program
  • Proven track record of raising scholar achievement scores in an urban environment
  • Ability to use data to inform instruction and decision-making related to scholar achievement
  • Ability to turn best practices into high quality, goal-driven results
  • Data management tools, organizational tools, computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google Suite, etc.)
