Role Summary:  This position will be responsible for the overall operation of the Casting Floor and Core Room. Directly supervises the Casting and Core Room Supervisors to ensure that working procedures are being followed in a manner that provides safe operation while maximizing quality and productivity.  Ensures that daily production schedules and SKU’S are met and coordinates issues and changes with scheduling. Works closely with Maintenance and Engineering to ensure essential work and projects are completed on schedule and in budget.  Coordinates projects to improve quality and productivity with CI and Management team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensures all safety procedures are being communicated and followed.  Communicates with supervisors and crew members on unsafe conditions and behaviors and maintains high standards for housekeeping.
• Ensures all Supervisors and crew members are full trained and qualified to perform their assigned positions within their job classification. Major focus on continually training all personnel to improve safety,quality and productivity.
• Maintains direct communication with maintenance supervisors to ensure equipment condition is monitored and maintenance activities prioritized.  Ensures all equipment and essential checklists for on schedule startup, operation and shutdown are completed.
• Continually striving to reduce defects and improve overweight performance working closely with QA and upstream and downstream departments to communicate non-conformance issues.
• Leads focus on cost control and waste management.
• Responsible for proper reporting of operations and for analyzing trends and required action steps to improve.
• With Supervisor and Manager-Hot End, handles manpower scheduling and employee performance issues.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Must have the ability to plan and direct the hourly workforce and to identify variances in operating conditions and take corrective action. 

   

  Qualifications:

• Requires high school diploma or GED
• 10+ years of experience in pipe casting with strong experience in core production, quality, molds and ladles.
• Strong process and equipment knowledge. Strong knowledge of plant safety and environmental procedures.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

• The employee will be working in a heavy industrial environment exposing the employee to Foundry operations.  The employee will be exposed (90% of the time) to the following working conditions:  Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust. Fumes, Molten Metal and Metallic Particles.  10% of the time will be office environment.
• The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time):  Standing, Walking, Balancing, Stooping, Kneeling, Reaching, Talking, Seeing, Hearing and Sitting.
