Job Description

Job Summary: Responsible for driving a safe work environment for the Lynchburg Plant. Administers and coordinates all aspects of plant safety for the pipe plant including: OSHA compliance, other regulatory compliance, safety audits and inspections, incident investigations, Emergency Response, safety committee, safety teams, and training. Will review, revise, develop, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of all local plant safety practices, policies, procedures, and programs. The Safety Manager needs to be willing to work flexible shifts to cover incidents, outages, and off turn safety audits. This position reports directly to the Corporate Director of Safety.   

 

  1. Strong self-direction and motivation is required.
  2. Provides information to the Plant Manager, Supervisors and Salaried Personnel regarding compliance with Federal and State OSHA regulations.
  3. Compiles, analyzes and interprets statistical data; prepares reports for daily, weekly and monthly safety activities.
  4. Must have good oral and written communication skills.
  5. Detail oriented and ability to prioritize and delegate.
  6. Understanding of Hot Work, Confined Space and Energy Control Procedures.
  7. Understanding of Lean 6’s Housekeeping Programs.
  8. Knowledge of hazardous materials, safety practices and SDS information.
  9. Knowledge of performing safety inspections and providing detailed corrective action recommendations to plant management.
  10. Ability to provide New Employee Orientation safety training.
  11. Must have experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  12. Administers, maintains data base on the Respiratory Protection and Hearing Conservation Programs.
  13. Administer, maintains records, and data base for all Safety Training.
  14. Attend monthly safety committee meeting to conduct training, and identifying immediate items that need to be addressed.
  15. Responds to Plant Emergencies and provides First Aid as needed.
  16. Maintains current file on all needed Material Data Safety Sheets.
  17. Assists Thirst Party Industrial Hygiene representatives with sampling.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Safety.




Skills/Requirements

 

Scope Data/Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

  • The employee will be working in an office environment but will be walking through the plant on a daily basis exposing the employee to foundry operations.  The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: extreme heat and cold, noise, vibration, oils, and atmospheric conditions such as dust, fumes, and metallic particles.
  • The employee will be required to perform the following actions regularly: standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing and sitting.The majority of the actions will be standing and walking.

 

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities and Traits: 

Bachelor’s Degree in Safety or a related safety or industrial hygiene field is required.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Emergency Care Provider (ECP) preferred.

2-4 years of safety and environmental experience outlining and implementing programs regarding employee safety procedures, practices, and accident protection and prevention in a heavy manufacturing industry preferred.
