Job Description

Athens Technical College in Athens, Georgia, seeks a full-time Instructor for its Computer Information Systems Technology (CIST)  Program. The CIST Instructor will report directly to the Dean of the Business and Education Division. The CIST Instructor is responsible for fulfilling both dual administrative and non-administrative (teaching) duties as well as teaching courses within the Computer Support Specialist and Networking Specialist programs.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and implement course materials that support stated initiatives and use appropriate techniques to provide students with the knowledge needed to achieve the learning outcomes for all Computer Information Systems Technology (CIST)  courses offered.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Utilization of appropriate teaching, testing, and grading techniques; demonstrating current knowledge of the subject area; using effective written and oral communication skills; maintaining educational records; developing curriculum and Blackboard course shells; using technology appropriate to the subject taught; evaluating students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives; and maintaining/requisitioning supplies and equipment.
  • Assist  with student recruitment, retention, advisement, and placement; recruitment and selection of adjuncts; advisory committee meetings and fulfillment of accreditation requirements.
  •  Planning, development, organization, administration, review, and improvement of the Computer Information Systems Technology (CIST) programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • The work schedule is 5 days a week (Monday - Friday) and the instructor must be available to teach day and evening classes along with advisement, program recruiting/development and other college activities at multiple campus locations (Elbert, Greene and Walton) as needed.

Skills/Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a master’s degree in computer-related field, (i.e. MBA in Business with CIS or MIS emphasis); MBA or Masters in Computer Information Systems;or a Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in computer courses that are taught at Athens Technical College.
  • Two years recent experience teaching/training college-level CIS classes; willingness to teach on multiple platforms, such as classroom, hybrid, on-line.
  • Microsoft Office, concept and computer logic courses, and computer industry certifications (such as network certifications), or possibly graduate course(s) equivalent;
  • The Candidate must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the courses assigned.
  • Excellent communication skills and work ethic; Commitment to student success.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience with academic course standards and SACSCOC Accreditation.
  • 5 years’ relevant work experience and; extensive knowledge of a Computer Information Systems Technology (CIST) related field.
  • Considerable recent (three within the past five years) work experience in the Computer Information Systems Technology (CIST) field.
  • The candidate must also have a minimum of 1-2 years full-time faculty college-level teaching experience; including online, lecture, hybrid, and web-enhanced.
  • Course development and experience using online teaching tools and online learning environment systems using Blackboard, to supplement traditional classroom courses and/or hybrid or online courses.
  • Experience with advisement, retention and enrollment management for high volume programs with multiple credential layers and offerings.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word 2016, Excel 2016, PowerPoint 2016.
  • The successful candidate will also have knowledge of establishment and evaluation of student learning outcomes
  • The candidate must demonstrate and display strong written and oral communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
