Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Supervise the quality assurance function covering all manufactured and purchased products, to ensure compliance with applicable standards and quality objectives.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Supervise the inspection and testing of all manufactured and purchased products.  Ensure compliance with standards and specifications.

 

  1. Supervise the mechanical property testing of manufactured product to ensure compliance with ISO, industry and Federal standards and regulations.  Ensure maintenance of records as required.

 

  1. Inform appropriate manufacturing departments of nonconformance in products and provide assistance with corrective action as required.

 

  1. Maintain consistent and objective judgement in resolution and classification of nonconformance.  Resolve interdepartmental quality-related issues.

 

  1. Review nonconforming products to determine final status.  Recommend rework as required.  Make final decisions on questionable products based on quality standards.

 

  1. Coordinates the selection and training of a competent staff to assure attainment of company quality objectives.

 

  1. Keep plant and upper level management informed of potential problems that could affect the company's reputation and/or liability.

 

  1. Assist with the handling of employee grievances at the first step.  Consults with the Works Manager and the Human Resources Manager on labor relations and disciplinary matters.

 

 

 

 

 

 

  1. Review, clarify as necessary and understand all provisions of the Labor Agreement and administer correctly.  Also, understand and enforce all work rules and regulations, including safety rules and procedures.

 

  1. Coordinates necessary employee safety training with the Safety Supervisor and assures employee safety through safe work procedures, prompt equipment repairs, effective housekeeping and compliance with internal safety practices and OSHA Standards.

 

  1. Assists and/or directs the investigation of customer complaints related to nonconforming products.  Formulates analysis of problems and prepares reports as required.

 

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. To assign work to employees and establish time schedules that assure timely completion.  Coordinate all departmental activities and inform appropriate employees of relevant work activities of fellow employees.  Resolve conflicts as appropriate.

 

  1. To instruct and train all employees on the specific responsibilities of their job.  Assess their training needs and establish on-the-job training activities on the procedures and techniques to allow the employee to become proficient as quickly as possible.

 

  1. Coordinate the hiring and orientation all new department employees.  Establish the job qualifications, interview all qualified applicants referred by the Human Resources Department and select the appropriate individual based on the applicant's ability to satisfy the Job Qualification Profile.

 

  1. To assure that all subordinate salaried employees have a copy of their Job Description, especially the critical performance areas.  Provide the employee with their salary grade and salary range as required.

 

  1. Review the performance of all subordinate salaried employees consistent with the timing outlined in the company's Salary Administration Plan.  Establish objectives with the employee at the start of each performance period and complete a Performance Appraisal form at the end.  To review the results of the performance appraisal with all employees and establish training and development plans to help them overcome performance deficiencies and develop new job skills to help realize their potential.

 

  1. To counsel and discipline all employees with performance and/or disciplinary problems.  Conduct all discipline in accordance with the company's policy and provide the proper attitude and supervisory help to assist the employee in correcting the deficiencies.

 





Skills/Requirements

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

 

Bachelors degree required.  Engineering or technical discipline preferred.

 

Minimum two years supervisory experience.

 

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

Able to effectively supervise unionized employees.
