Surgical Technologist-PRN

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

Demonstrates general knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and supplies utilized in order to prepare the operating suite for surgery and to assist the medical team throughout the procedure. Requires a thorough knowledge of aseptic technique.  The role also includes support in various other areas such as sterile processing, inventory and supplies maintenance. Provides assistance in emergency procedures as well as elective and scheduled cases. Assists in preparation, transportation and supervision of patient.

Requires working knowledge of the anatomic and physiologic characteristics of the various age groups being served, including infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and aging adult.  Requires well developed interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact effectively with all internal and external customers, as needed.

Skills/Requirements

 

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Education Required:  

High School graduate or GED. 

Graduate from an accredited school of Surgical Technology or Hospital

conducted on the job training with proof of program content and completion

 

 

Education Preferred:  

Experience Required:  1 year related experience or training in surgical technician curriculum

Experience Preferred: Computer skills

 

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:

 

Required:     Current BCLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

                                   

Preferred:    Current certification as a Surgical Technologist

*** Effective 9/1/09, TX Bill HB 643 requires for all surgical technologists to hold and maintain certification as a surgical technologists within 6 months of graduation.  A surgical technologist may not continue to practice surgical technology after the 180th day after the date of graduation without showing documentation to the health care facility that the person holds and maintain the surgical technologist certification. **
