Job Description

Athens Technical College in Athens, Georgia seeks an Adjunct Instructor for the Welding Technology Program.  Welding courses are offered at Morgan County High School in Madison, Georgia for dual enrollment students. The instructor is responsible to the Dean of the Technology, Engineering, and Manufacturing Division for fulfilling both teaching and non-teaching activities. This includes lecture and lab courses.   The successful applicant will be expected to implement course materials that support stated initiatives and use appropriate techniques to provide students with the knowledge needed to achieve the learning outcomes for each Welding Technology course offered. 

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Adhere to all rules, regulations and course syllabi; use appropriate teaching techniques; conduct proper testing and grading activities; demonstrate appropriate knowledge of the subject area; use and maintain records; prepare lesson plans for classroom instruction; develop program and course outlines, goals, and objectives; evaluate students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives; request and maintain supplies and equipment; prepare and maintain required documentation for administrative reports. Participate in institutional activities in support of the program to include: assist in recruiting for the college, maintain knowledge of current trends, attend required meetings, and perform other duties as assigned.

Skills/Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Welding diploma from a regionally accredited public or private institution; considerable recent work experience in welding; excellent written and verbal communication skills; and appropriate professional credentials/certifications for or related to the field of welding. The ability to effectively relate to diverse personalities, maintain good working relationships with students and staff, strong interpersonal skills, communication skills and work ethic.

Candidate must be familiar with GMAW, GTAW, SMAW FCAW, Oxy-fuel Cutting, Pipe Welding, Plasma Arc Cutting and Carbon Arc.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate Degree; current Certified Welding Instructor (CWI) credential from the American Welding Society; 3-5 years’ experience teaching at the postsecondary level; and active participation in appropriate professional and/or occupational organizations.
