Job Description

Role Summary:

Under limited supervision, develop and implement electrical engineering projects, specifications, plans, and designs for additions, modifications and improvements to manufacturing equipment and plant facilities.  Assist with manufacturing equipment problem solving, control systems reliability, data collection and analysis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop systems and processes that reduce costs, enhance employee safety, improve product quality and increase operating efficiencies and equipment reliability.  Executes and manages these projects from design conception to installation and commissioning.
  • Implements critical projects ensuring adherence to design specifications, safety standards and regulatory compliance – on time and within budget.
  • Coordinates the design, construction and installation of electrical power and control systems for new and existing equipment which are safe, reliable and technically correct.
  • Proactively identify operational needs, conceive improvements, consider potential issues and evaluate costs and potential savings to optimize existing machinery and/or processes.
  • Performs root cause analysis using a number of established systems and techniques such as Failure Modes Effects Analysis, Cause and Effect diagrams (fishbone), 5 Whys, etc.
  • Conducts studies, collects data, and provides detailed engineering calculations to support proposed design solutions.
  • Creates, modifies, and documents PLC programs, HMI screens and programs, electrical schematic drawings, control cabinet layouts, control networks, single line drawings and power distribution layouts.
  • Prepares cost estimates, writes detailed equipment specifications, obtains vendor/contractor quotations, writes purchase order requisitions for equipment, and provides on-site supervision of construction projects to assure that plans and specifications are met.
  • Prepares electrical drawings, project schedules, cable and I/O tables, PLC programs, HMI screens and programs, sequence of operations, operating and maintenance procedures, including parts lists, to provide plant personnel with operating and maintenance information.
  • Assists Plant Engineering and Maintenance personnel with the identification of causes of electrical and control problems and provides solutions to problems through adjustments, modifications, training, documentation or revisions to programs, parts and systems.
  • Organizes and maintains electrical controls and programming software licenses.  Coordinates and performs upgrades when required.
  • Maintains working relationship with outside consulting engineers, contractors, suppliers and vendors to provide the Company with quality materials and professional assistance.
  • Obtains information from Engineering Department library and drawings, duplicates drawings as required and supplies information to plant personnel as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.




Skills/Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Candidates must have experience in the design and implementation of complex automation systems components and architectures Including:
  • Rockwell Automation: RSLogix 5000 Studio,  FactoryTalk View HMI, Rockwell AB series 500 and 700 VFDs, internetworking using Rockwell managed switches.  Application of current control networks including EthernetIP, DeviceNet, and ControlNet, SQL data integration.
  • Wide range of industrial instrumentation such as photoelectric sensors,  laser sensors, mechanical proximity sensors, hydraulic proportional control, LVDT, rotary encoders, and pressure transducers.
  • Medium voltage power systems.
  • GE Proficy, Cimplicity, and Wonderware, PanelView
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Project)
  • AutoCAD.
  • Project management
  • Basic database management.
  • Candidates must have excellent communication skills with ability to present technical information and solutions effectively

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required with Professional Engineering registration a plus.
  • Seven to ten years of electrical engineering experience in an industrial manufacturing environment is desired, preferably in the foundry or steel industry but not a requirement.

Physical requirements/Working Conditions:

  • The employee will be working in both an office and foundry environment and will be working throughout the plant exposing the employee to Foundry operations.  The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions:  Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Metallic Particles.
  • The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing and sitting.
