 TITLE: Accounting Manager

 

REPORTS TO:  Chief Financial Officer

 

SUPERVISES: Manager of Financial Operations, Accounting Specialist

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

This position is responsible for managing accounting functions of the organization:

  • Oversee, implement and maintain accounting systems and procedures. 
  • Ensure the accurate compilation, analysis and reporting of accounting data. 
  • Bi-weekly payroll submission
  • Supervise Accounts Payable
  • Supervise Accounts Receivable
  • Oversee Cash Receipts and bank reconciliation
  • Oversee Grant Contract Billing and Compliance
  • Acts as liaison between the company, government, client and CPA auditors in providing the required information and ensuring that proper information is maintained for chronological purposes.
  • Perform duties assigned by Chief Financial Officer

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Review and transmit payroll on a bi-weekly schedule in conjunction with HR Manager
  • Execute benefits reconciliation between employee’s deductions and carrier’s invoices
  • Assign and audit the work of the accounting staff to develop: including Accounts Payable operations to ensure weekly check processing and cash journal entries
  • Manage online payments to different vendors
  • Communicate with vendors to address any past due invoices on their account and providing weekly status updates to CFO
  • Reclassify AP/Cash entries and posts it to the general ledger under the direction of CFO.
  • Maintains cash receipts, payroll allocation and other accounting schedules.
  • Perform account reconciliations monthly.
  • Review general ledger accounts for posting errors and omissions and makes necessary adjustments.
  • Reconciles cash, payroll, payroll deduction and various other accounts.
  • Prepare monthly contract/grant billings.
  • Perform month end closing through journal entries, account ledger maintenance and reconciliation; financial report preparation and analysis
  • Serve as primary backup for the processing of payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and check requests and making bank deposits.
  • Maintain daily cash balance schedule.
  • Maintain revenue and expense information for annual audit, budget and various financial reports.
  • Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess the qualifications listed below.  The qualifications listed are considered minimum qualifications, unless noted otherwise.

 

       Education:   BS degree in Accounting, Finance or Business related field required.

 

            Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

  • 5-7 years of related work experience in nonprofit management or government
  • Proficient knowledge of computerized accounting/payroll software, Blackbaud Accounting and ADP Payroll software strongly preferred.
  • Ability to take initiative, manage multiple engagements and competing priorities
  • Exceptional analytical and problem solving abilities
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships
  • Ability to manage and develop staff
  • Demonstrated mentoring, coaching and highly organizational administrative skills required
  • Ability to work in a diverse community setting and as part of a team is required
  • Working knowledge of full accounting cycle and financial statements is required
  • Must function independently and as a member of a team
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • staff supervisory and development experience preferred
  • Experience monitoring and billing government contracts
  • Proficient in Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) not-for-profit reporting and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Form 990 and Form 990-T requirements
  • Experience with U.S. Federal Government Uniform Grant Guidance preferred
  • Experience with Commonwealth of Massachusetts Uniform Financial Report (UFR) reporting requirements preferred.
  • Desire to work in a mission driven organization that is undergoing organizational change
