Job Description

Athens Technical College in Athens, Georgia, seeks an Adjunct Instructor for the Culinary Arts Program on its Walton County Campus in Monroe, Georgia. The Adjunct Instructor is responsible for fulfilling both dual administrative and non-administrative (teaching) duties for the Culinary Arts Program.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and implement course materials that support stated initiatives and use appropriate techniques to provide students with the knowledge needed to achieve the learning outcomes for all Culinary Arts courses offered.

Responsibilities:

Applicants must be available to teach early morning class with a start and availability date of January 3, 2018.  This position requires using appropriate teaching, testing, and grading techniques; demonstrating current knowledge of Pastry Arts and Confectionary; using effective written and oral communication skills; maintaining educational records; using technology appropriate to the subject taught; and evaluating students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives.

Skills/Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Culinary and/or Pastry Arts or related field required; Bachelor’s Degree or higher strongly preferred. 
  • ServSafe Certification required.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of documented work experience in the culinary/pastry field with prior experience in Pastry Arts; Confectionary and Sugar Technique
  • A commitment to represent excellence and professionalism in the classroom and community is essential.
  • The Candidate must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the courses assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5-7 years of actual work experience in the pastry/culinary field with at least 3 years Pastry Experience.  A commitment to represent excellence and professionalism in the classroom and community is essential.
  • The candidate must also have a minimum of 1 year part-time Adjunct Instructor college-level teaching experience; including online, lecture, hybrid, and web-enhanced.
  • Demonstrate hands on Pastry Arts with emphasis on plated desserts, confectionary, and sugar techniques
  • Experience with developing presentations with advanced media technology and online learning applications.
  • Work experience that includes and demonstrates a commitment to represent excellence and professionalism in the classroom and community.
  • Proficient experience with developing and managing courses using the Blackboard learning management system and online instruction.
  • Proficiency using all Microsoft office applications: Word 2013, Excel 2013, PowerPoint 2013 and Outlook.
  • The candidate must demonstrate and display strong written and oral communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
