Job Description

Under the direction of the Executive Chef is to provide quality food to guests at The Forklift Restaurant Snowbird while always striving to decrease costs. Responsible for coordinating and communicating with front and back of house personnel. Looking for a working chef for a high traffic restaurant that seats 120. Serves breakfast, lunch and seasonal après ski. Year round full time position, must be able to work any day of the week including weekends and holidays.Pay D.O.E.

 

Position Functions / Areas of Responsibility

  • Reports to work on time in the proper uniform. Obeys all company rules and regulations.
  • Rewards and disciplines as merited by employee performance. Assigns, oversees and evaluates employee work performance. Recommends promotion, transfer or termination of employees based on performance evaluation.
  • Responsible for food cost, kitchen labor and all kitchen operating expenses, designing menus and creating recipes.
  • Ensures standards of appearance and sanitation are maintained on a daily basis. Maintains good safety practices of employees throughout the kitchen.
  • Maintains daily records including daily sales and payroll and is responsible for monthly profit and loss statements. Completes nightly reports. Reviews daily sales. Adjusts scheduling according to labor and sales figures.
  • Takes fast and appropriate action to solve problems. Handles guest concerns in a professional manner.
  • Maintains line of communication between dining room, kitchen, and administrative office.

Interactions

  • Must have the ability to interact at any time with guests and other employees in a pleasant manner and maintain good working relationships with others and all departments at Snowbird.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Associates degree in related field.  Additional related work experience may be substituted for education.
  • 2-4 years of job-specific work experience with demonstrated competence.

Specific Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Food Handler Permit

Skills & Knowledge

  • Must demonstrate competency in reading, writing and arithmetic with accuracy in counting, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.
  • Must demonstrate ability to design and cost  menus and recipes. 
  • Proficiency in handling all kitchen equipment, ability to multi-task, i.e. Direct staff activities while maintaining interactions between the dining room and the bar and ability to prepare and analyze monthly financial statement must be demonstrated.
  • Requires judgment within policy guidelines and initiation of activities within job description and responsibility limitations. 
  • Understanding other Snowbird operations is essential.

Work Schedule

  • Year round, full time, shifts vary, may be early morning or late evening, weekends, holidays, depending on business levels.

Working Conditions

  • Must be prepared to stay overnight if necessary on occasional times of road closures.
  • May experience unusual stress from continual work with public, winter conditions, snow night requirements and commuting to/from Snowbird.
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must demonstrate ability to bend, kneel, handle, reach, grasp and perform repetitive motions.
