Job Description

TITLE: COLLEGE READINESS ADVISOR

REPORTS TO:  Pathway Leader

POSITION OVERVIEW

The College Readiness Advisor (CRA) in College Connections is responsible for supporting the socio-emotional aspects involved with college readiness for our Foundations Pathway students. A CRA serves as the case manager for an identified set of students whose primary roles it to teach the life and behavioral skills necessary to enter and succeed in college and beyond.  CRA’s teach, meet 1:1 and in groups, conduct and monitor goal setting and assist students when barriers interfere with the path to college graduation.  This position also entails some supervision and engagement, organization, coordination and implementation of activities and events relevant to youth.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
·         Support youth development academically and social-emotionally to develop the skills to enter and graduate from college by:
          o   Monitoring participation in all aspects of programming,
          o   Mentoring youth through modeling positive, healthy relationships and decision-making,
       
  o   Daily, weekly, and/or bi-weekly check-ins with students to monitor and solve challenges and barriers to educational progress 
          o   Planning, executing and assessing objective-based LAUNCH lessons to teach social readiness, college readiness and life skills,
          o   Communicating to students their academic readiness for various college tracks by assessing student grades, monitoring academic progress with credit recovery and other experiences, and performance on standardized assessments,
          o   Planning activities that provide students an opportunity to practice social readiness, college readiness and life skills;

·         Maintain regular contact with schools, parents and families of students served;
·         Track and keep up to date all efforts and student progress using Efforts To Outcomes software, as well as maintaining all other required records;
·         Manage each students case and serve as their advocate both internally and externally;
·         Strengthen and develop partnerships with other youth serving organizations;
·         Participate in all case management meetings, staff meetings and other required program/organization meetings/events;
·         Participate in relevant required trainings and seek out training opportunities that support professional development outlined in the Individualized Professional Development Plan;
·         Adhere to all protocols and norms for communication and professional conduct, e.g. Email and Phone Communication Protocol, Communication Norms;
·         Fulfill all outlined and related functions in a professional, timely, and thorough manner;
·         Complete other duties related to this position as assigned by your direct supervisor.

HOURS

Monday through Friday 8:30am-4:30pm; Some programming occurs during evening; Some weekend and evening events required.





Skills/Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

 

The ideal candidate will possess the qualifications listed below.  The qualifications listed are considered minimum qualifications, unless noted otherwise.

Education:   Bachelor’s degree preferred or actively pursuing degree

Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

·         At least 3 years of experience working with at-risk youth;

·         Track record of supporting youth to engage positively with education and life choices

·         Deep knowledge of youth development;

·         Desire to work in a mission driven organization undergoing organizational change;

·         Ability to work and communicate with adolescent youth and families from all populations;

·         Must function independently and as a member of a team;

·         Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook;

·         Experience working with performance data-base preferred;

·         Ability to take initiative and prioritize work, highly organized;

·         Ability to travel to assigned, remote sites and within the community - valid driver’s license preferred.

·         Cape Verdean Creole and/or Spanish speaking preferred.
