Snowbird is looking for a Craftsman (professional whose work is consistently of high quality), to work at the Vehicle Maintenance Shop.

Under the direction of Vehicle Maintenance Manager.
Repair and maintain various resort fleet equipment, including light vehicles, heavy equipment and snowcats applying to assure that resort has reliable and safe equipment with minimal to no interruptions in service.

Position Functions / Areas of Responsibility

  • Repair fleet and resort motorized equipment as assigned in order to provide optimal equipment availability, safety, useful life and running time.
  • Develop new techniques and methods for an efficient service and repair.
  • Maintain and repair resort equipment, based on experience and knowledge in the automotive field.
  • Perform advanced fabrication and custom modifications.
  • Help train new team members.
  • Diagnose and repair all vehicle problems, in a timely fashion.
  • Document usage of all parts, and all completed work orders.
  • Follow all shop safety practice and dress code.
  • Manage motor pool and takes accountability for damages on daily basis.
  • Keep working area clean and tools organized during and after service, focusing on safety.
  • Assists with administrative duties; finding parts, writing P.O.’s, filling records.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
  • Travel: Occasional trips to Salt Lake Valley.

  • Occasional contact with guests.
  • Direct and continuous contact with co-workers, management, and other departments.
  • Must have the ability to interact at any time with guests and other employees in a pleasant manner and maintain good working relationships with others and all departments at Snowbird.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical or mechanical training or apprenticeship program in diesel, truck, automotive mechanics or related specialties.
  • 5+ years of job-specific work experience with demonstrated competence.
  • Automotive Services Excellence (ASE) Certification preferred.

Specific Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have a current driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Must have own tools (full hand tools, full air tools, diagnostic, etc.)
  • Formal automotive training required.
  • Specialty training (hydraulics and/or electronics) required.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Technical:
  • Demonstrated competence in the field of diesel and automotive mechanics; knowledge of skills with gasoline and diesel automotive engines, small gasoline engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, basic welding and hydro-static transmissions desirable.  Proven ability to follow manufacturers’ guidelines and procedures following safety standards.  Ability to solve and diagnose a variety of mechanical problems.  Knowledge of automobiles, heavy construction equipment, snowplows and light equipment such as: snowmobiles, ATV’s, snow blowers and lawn mowers.

Administrative:

  • Ability to read and write, performs simple mathematics with accuracy, and follow directions and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of work performed, record parts orders and work orders.

Working Conditions

  • General working hours:
  • 7:00am-5:30pm, 4 days a week with occasional overtime as needed.
  • Shift hours may vary depending on work load.
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays with occasional evening shifts.
  • Position requires rotating on-call shifts, emergency call out and extended hours.

Mental:

  • Must be prepared to stay overnight if necessary on occasional times of road closures.
  • May experience unusual stress from continual work with public, winter conditions, snow night requirements and commuting to/from Snowbird.

Physical:

  • Must be able to lift 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must demonstrate ability to bend, kneel, handle, reach, grasp and perform repetitive motions.
  • Work is outdoors and requires constant exposure to cold and other extreme weather conditions.
  • Work is subject to frequent interruptions making continuity and accuracy difficult, frequent exposure to noise.
