GQ Life Sciences is the industry leader in biological sequence search for Intellectual Property.  We deliver a SaaS software product that lets pharmaceutical and agricultural companies search a database of patents and other data sources for specific DNA and protein sequences.  We also deliver the premiere biological sequence IP database that underlies that product.

The work is fun and challenging.  You will partner with very intelligent co-workers and customers, many of them with advanced degrees, on complex applications that have their origins in the Human Genome Project.  We continue to deliver complex, interactive and downright cool applications to customers, to maintain our position as the premiere product offering in the market.  No one else does what we do, the way that we do.

The Engineer, Development is responsible for development tasks like coding and debugging of complex scope using standard concepts and principles. Works as a fully contributing team member, under broad guidance. S/he should be able to apply own judgment and independently determine a course of action to execute it, post review.  S/he is responsible for delivering stable, performant, and documented code, as well as providing support for the product.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

• Creates high level and low level design for a given set of functional requirements as a marketable feature or a set of Use Cases.
• Has good command in technology of the primary product.
• Follows best coding practices.
• Assists colleagues with design reviews, code reviews, implementation and information about existing implementations.
• Becomes an expert in one or more modules of the product.
• Develops a good understanding of core modules of a secondary product.
• Works both independently and as part of a team
• Available (scheduled periodically, as one member of a team) for on-call 24/7 SaaS support.

Education

Bachelors degree in related field required. MCA preferred. 

Work Experience

Requires a minimum of 5 years of software development experience.

Knowledge

• Requires experience with full stack Java development.
• Prior experience with database management systems (SQL is required, Solr/MongoDb are a plus).
• Direct experience with a modern front end development framework, like AngularJS or React, is preferred. 
• Experience with RDBMS, IDE, and Linux shell commands.
• Experience with Grails, PHP, Dojo, Spring Boot/Batch/Integration, messaging and Solr are a plus.
