Job Description

 

Athens Technical College in Athens, Georgia, is seeking qualified candidates for a Federal Work Study position – Microbiology Laboratory Assistant - for the Biotechnology Program. This position is responsible to the Science Laboratory Manager and Faculty members as assigned, performing a variety of laboratory support functions.

 

Clean laboratories, wash glassware and stock lab supplies for class use

Prepare materials for lab activities

Set up equipment for lab activities including microscopes, slides, etc.

Maintain bacterial cultures as instructed

Sterilize lab waste in autoclave and dispose of sterilized material

Receive, unpack, date and store incoming supplies

Maintain supply inventory

Assist with preparing purchase orders for lab supplies using Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint

Ensure classroom printers are supplied with paper and restock when needed

Assist in maintaining Laboratory Equipment and material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) files as indicated

 
Skills/Requirements

To be eligible for this position, candidates must be a current student AND be receiving Pell money for the current term.

In addition, candidates must have satisfactorily completed MIB 191 OR BIO 2117.

Working with bacterial cultures requires manual dexterity, prior experience or a background of demonstrated practical skills is preferred.

Good computer skills, familiarity with common software programs and internet use, are desirable.
