Job Description

The Sr. Software Product Owner is the member of the team responsible for defining Stories and prioritizing the Team Backlog so as to streamline the execution of program priorities, while maintaining conceptual and technical integrity of the features or components for which the team is responsible.  The role has significant relationships and responsibilities outside the team, including working with product management, clinical affairs, engineering, and other shareholders to prepare for user input for development.

 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • As a member of the Agile product development team, the Product Owner is the main point of contact and decision maker on key requirements and features to be developed
  • The Product Owner is responsible for gathering input from and managing expectations of all major stakeholders in a software development cycle including product management, marketing, customer support, scrum master, project management, and development team members
  • The Product Owner is responsible for leading team meetings, scrum ceremonies, owning communications to stakeholders and generally, be the face of the product in all meetings and updates
  • Key activities include managing requirements, use cases, documentation and user stories for the current sprint as well as refining and preparing for subsequent sprints
  • Develop strong relationships with all development and business stakeholders in order to ensure timely and effective delivery of software features and defect resolution
  • Requirements Gathering
    • The Product Owner works with the Product Managers, Marketing Managers, Customer Support team, Clinical Affairs, and Commercial team to understand requirements and convert to actionable items on the backlog
    • The Product Owner is accountable for synchronizing scrum teams backlog activities, user story creation, acceptance criteria and loading into our feature/requirement tracking tool
  • Product Release / Planning:
  • The Product Owner transforms product vision from Product Management into actionable release backlogs
  • The Product Owner manages the product backlog pulling items which provide the most value to the customer into the release backlog in preparation for release planning
  • The Product Owner also has a significant role in the planning event itself as the main point of contact for questions and clarification of user stories
  • The Product Owner has the primary responsibility to build, refine, and maintain the product backlog
  • The backlog consists mostly of user stories, but also includes defects, technical debt and infrastructure work
  • Backlog items are prioritized based on user value, time and other team dependencies which are determined in Release Planning
  • During Release Planning, the Product Owner is involved with user story definition, writing acceptance criteria, providing clarifications necessary to assist the team with their story estimates, sprint planning, story sequencing, and drafting the team's specific objectives for the upcoming sprints
  • Monitor ongoing performance of features and act as point of contact for questions, concerns and suggestions
  • Provide input on test strategy and test cases, being an advocate of quality solutions that meet or exceed defined customer expectations
  • Perform reviews with key internal stakeholders & commercial customers throughout the design lifecycle to ensure alignment on solution designs and requirements
  • The Product Owner is responsible for leading team meetings, scrum ceremonies, owning communications to stakeholders and generally, be the face of the product in all meetings and updates

Skills/Requirements

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience
  • Experience as an Agile Product Owner
  • Experience in medical device software development highly desired
  • Experience in embedded software development highly desired
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner and/or Certified Scrum Master certification are preferred
  • Extensive understanding of Agile methodology and/or previous experience implementing agile onto a team is preferred
  • Experience with defect tracking management systems (e.g. Jira, Confluence, etc.)
  • Self-motivated, not requiring significant managerial direction
  • Adept at adjusting to changing circumstances quickly and professionally
  • Proficiency with Visio, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
