Job Description

The Director, R&D would be responsible for managing various product lines. S/he should have professional qualifications with extensive work experience and advanced people management/ interpersonal skills. This is a leadership position, responsible for identifying its function’s linkages across the organization and developing appropriate processes and road maps for the function. S/he should be an expert in Product Engineering with in depth knowledge of multiple products and able to evaluate, choose and implement processes.

 
Participates with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives. Makes final decisions on administrative or operational matters and ensure operations effective achievement of objectives.
Complexity: Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of the company. Participates in the corporate development of methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people. Ensures budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements.
 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES 
 
1. Expert in Product Engineering, process, project and people management
2. The role will have budgetary responsibilities
3. The role would take strategic decisions which will have a major impact on business unit or significant impact on organization goals. The impact can be medium term in nature
4. Courses of actions are guided by corporate goals and strategies
5. The role manages work activities of a department/ function through lower level managers
6. Responsible for conducting appraisals, feedback & handling work allocations for direct reports and approving the same for indirect reports
7. Drives the application of principles, theories and concepts and determines the best course of action.
8. Resolves critical and complex issues impacting overall organization direction and results
9. Establishes functional procedure and policy
10. Actively contributes to strategy setting at corporate level.
11. Establishes and implements policies at a department level
12. Ability to advise others and manage divergent interests and perspectives
13. Use skill of persuasion in communication and ability to develop effective communication strategy
14. Expert project and people management skills are required
 

Work Experience

Typically requires a minimum of 16 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 13 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 10 years' experience; or equivalent experience. Typical range of experience is 16-19 years.
