Job Description
TITLE: Teacher (Early Education)

REPORTS TO: Operations Manager

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Teacher will be supervised by the Operations Manager and is responsible for working with the Lead Teacher to implement the established class curriculum, assessments, program standards and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  •  Contribute to the overall management of the classroom;
  • Work with groups or individual children, helping to facilitate the implementation of the curriculum, program philosophy of education and procedures, health and safety practices;
  • Attend weekly planning meetings and participate in curriculum planning for assigned classrooms;
  • Share in the responsibility of the classroom including: cleaning the room, maintenance of materials, preparation and/or serving of snack/meals and other general classroom duties;
  • Meet for individual evaluation with parents of children in your group.
  • Assist in the maintenance of materials, equipment and supplies in the classroom;
  • Help to maintain an attractive, neat and orderly classroom;
  • Contribute observation data to child development records;
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and in service training sessions; staff meetings and trainings can take place in the evenings or weekends.
  • Keep abreast of current theory, research and practices in the Early Education field by reading related literature, journals, magazines, etc;
  • Keep Program Manager informed about any problems, concerns, issues, emergencies, parent complaints or equipment needs/repairs;
  • Other duties as assigned.




Skills/Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will possess the qualifications listed below. The qualifications listed are considered minimum qualifications, unless noted otherwise.
 
Education: High School Diploma or equivalency
 
Experience, Knowledge and Skills:
 
Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) teacher qualified (One or more of the following)
  • 3 credits in the course Child Growth and Development, Child Psychology or Developmental Psychology.
  •  9 months work experience, preferably in a center based preschool setting.
  • An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in ECE or related field will substitute for 6 months of the required experience.
  • A Child Development Associate Credential (CDA)
  • A passing grade in Child Development in a College Level Examination Program (CLEP exams)
  • Graduation from an approved 2-year high school child care program since 1989 with a recommendation letter from the high school program director, a copy of your high school diploma and transcript
Other Requirements:
  • Must have an annual physical exam and a perennial negative Mantoux (PPD) Test
  • Must maintain a current First Aid a and CPR Training Certification
