ABIOMED® is redefining team-driven success while reshaping heart recovery. Here, new ideas are welcomed and encouraged, learning is constant, and our dynamic setting enables positive people to do profoundly important work.
If you have: Systems engineering experience in Medical Device with technical capabilities in mechanical, electrical, software and biomedical disciplines, we want to hear from you.
The ideal candidate will: Solve problems that have not been solved before except in the broadest sense, and bring solutions to new and challenging problems that require input from a broad range of engineers. This individual will lead complex technical tasks and engineering process improvements, provide direction to senior and junior staff, develop new products and provide engineering support for existing products. This position is a precursor to a Chief Engineer role.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide technical contribution and systems engineering leadership in the development of blood pumping systems.
Partner with product management, research, engineering, clinical, and manufacturing groups to move new features, technology and products through product development and into the market
Provide system concept definition, system requirements development and analysis, new technology assessment, evaluation of alternative technical solutions, and systems integration.
Assist in defining user needs; translate user needs into specific, well-written, quantifiable, verifiable design input requirements. Analyze requirements for relevance, consistency and completeness
Perform reliability budget allocations; provide leadership in identifying and addressing technical risks and hazards, and propose feasibility test plans to eliminate or mitigate identified scenarios; utilize and maintain existing analytical models, develop new models, design tests, and validated performance simulations.
Participate in concept development, system trade-off analysis, functional prototype builds and feasibility demonstration; complete key performance features and control major technical risks; provide input into process improvement
Ensure clinical knowledge of cardiology procedures and techniques are incorporated into the design process; be an advocate for the customer and patient
Lead the collection of technical feedback, and participate in the collection of customer feedback needed for design iteration
Characterize system performance (hemodynamics, blood compatibility, ease of use, strength and reliability, algorithms and software), draw conclusions from analysis and tests, and interpret the implications.
Hold system-level design reviews and contribute as an active independent reviewer
Provide key input into defining system verification plans, and protocols
