The ideal candidate will: Solve problems that have not been solved before except in the broadest sense, and bring solutions to new and challenging problems that require input from a broad range of engineers. This individual will lead complex technical tasks and engineering process improvements, provide direction to senior and junior staff, develop new products and provide engineering support for existing products. This position is a precursor to a Chief Engineer role.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical contribution and systems engineering leadership in the development of blood pumping systems. 
  • Partner with product management, research, engineering, clinical, and manufacturing groups to move new features, technology and products through product development and into the market
  • Provide system concept definition, system requirements development and analysis, new technology assessment, evaluation of alternative technical solutions, and systems integration. 
  • Assist in defining user needs; translate user needs into specific, well-written, quantifiable, verifiable design input requirements.  Analyze requirements for relevance, consistency and completeness
  • Perform reliability budget allocations; provide leadership in identifying and addressing technical risks and hazards, and propose feasibility test plans to eliminate or mitigate identified scenarios; utilize and maintain existing analytical models, develop new models, design tests, and validated performance simulations. 
  • Participate in concept development, system trade-off analysis, functional prototype builds and feasibility demonstration; complete key performance features and control major technical risks; provide input into process improvement
  • Ensure clinical knowledge of cardiology procedures and techniques are incorporated into the design process; be an advocate for the customer and patient
  • Lead the collection of technical feedback, and participate in the collection of customer feedback needed for design iteration
  • Characterize system performance (hemodynamics, blood compatibility, ease of use, strength and reliability, algorithms and software), draw conclusions from analysis and tests, and interpret the implications.
  • Hold system-level design reviews and contribute as an active independent reviewer
  • Provide key input into defining system verification plans, and protocols




Skills/Requirements
  • BS in engineering(Mechanical or ElectroMechanical) with at least 12+ years of applicable complex systems engineering experience, MS or PhD Preferred
  • Strong conceptual design, engineering and statistical analytical skills, detailed design and testing skills required
  • Requirements development and analysis; system specification development
  • Demonstrated technical leadership skills: bridge gaps between disciplines, present detailed solutions, see the big picture and drive outcomes with passion and presence
  • Experience leading external partnerships and promoting internal collaboration
  • Strong communication skills are required to convey technical ideas to internal personnel as well as to customers
  • Knowledge of Minitab preferred
  • Knowledge of Matlab/Simulink or other systems modeling SW preferred
  • Knowledge of ANSYS/FLUENT or other FEA/CFD experience preferred
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks preferred
  • Knowledge of Labview preferred
  • Knowledge of design controls and requirements tools preferred
