Job Description

The Medical Operations Lead will be accountable for managing, prioritizing, facilitating, and triaging all operational processes, requests, and projects that are performed by the Medical Office. Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), this person will ensure efficient operations across the Medical Office and execute against key strategic priorities of the CMO.

This individual is expected to be highly autonomous, quickly taking on day-to-day operational responsibilities of running the Medical Office. They will act as the primary point of contact for all requests to the Medical Office and the CMO, serving to prioritize and triage actions to appropriate Medical Office stakeholders. Expectation is that this person will be a trusted resource to all staff in the Medical Office, consulting on key business principles and projects, facilitating Medical Office operational meetings, and advancing Medical Office strategic projects.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Focus on advancing Medical Office goals while assuring strategic alignment to Abiomed’s tactical plan and broader operational objectives.
  • Primarily accountable for the day to day operations of the Medical Office
  • Owns operational processes (performance dashboards, meeting agenda development and facilitation, metrics tracking and executive reporting / updates, etc.)
  • Establish and implement processes for operational efficiency with the goal of minimizing redundancy across all functional areas that impact the success of the Medical Office
  • Continually assesses operating procedures and takes action to assure on-going quality improvement
  • Manages all requests to the Medical office for customer visits, conference attendance, documentation review, product consultation, and all other ad-hoc requests.
  • Oversees and manages special projects as assigned by the CMO
  • Serve as an operational consultant to the Chief Medical Officer, partnering with other departments to execute tasks and complete projects
  • Develops weekly Medical Office read-out materials for leadership team meetings
  • Tracks and manages external projects in which the CMO is a key stakeholder or decision maker
  • Facilitates knowledge sharing and medical content management across functional areas and departments
  • Ensures effective utilization of materials and staff, distributing responsibilities to appropriate Medical stakeholders.

 





Skills/Requirements
  • 7-10 years operations leadership experience in the life sciences industry, or 5-7 years consulting experience
  • 4 year degree required, advanced degree (e.g. MBA or similar) preferred
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus
  • Prior experience managing operations for medical and research oriented functions
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience working with senior executives; experience working with CMOs is a plus
  • Exemplary diplomacy and negotiation skills; proven ability to navigate a highly matrixed environment
  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills; proven record of integrating and unifying diverse perspectives around creative solutions to challenges
  • Ability to make critical business decisions and manage competing stakeholder expectations
  • Excellent multi-tasking abilities; Demonstrated ability to coordinate, prioritize, and facilitate concurrent projects and demands
  • Mastery of critical computer skills, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. (LI-PH#1)
