Job Description

Aquatics Coordinator

Certification Class to be lifeguard certified starts October 17th Sign up at YMCA. Will also train right person on job if not able to make class. Looking for All Shifts but specifically someone who is available for shift between 8 am-4 pm. Moms with small children can have childcare from 8am to 11am at the YMCA while working. Needs to be Available on short notice to cover shifts and available to work about 25 hours a week. Must also be willing to learn how to run pool filter and chlorination systems work and be able to maintain aspects of them.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. At least 21 years old.
  2. American Red Cross / YMCA Lifeguard Certification.
  3. YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor.
  4. ARC / ASHI, AED, O2, CPR-PR Instructor or be able to obtain in 1 year.
  5. YMCA or ARC Lifeguard instructor or be able to obtain in 1 year.
  6. YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer or obtain in 1 year.
  7. Lifeguard experience for at least 5 years preferred.
  8. Support the Y Mission.
  9. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  10. Ability to foster a collaborative team approach to solving challenging situations.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for assisting the Aquatics Director with the day-to-day operations of the aquatic facility and the youth swim lessons as well as for the safety of all patrons in the swimming pool this includes proper care for patrons in any and all emergencies and ensuring that all rules for the swimming pool are followed by all patrons.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following, other duties may be assigned:

  1. Thinks, communicates and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions.
  2. Perform all required normal lifeguard and Swim Lesson Instructor duties when required.
  3. Help Lifeguards find subs and cover shifts when needed, keeping Aquatics Director informed.
  4. Teach water fitness classes as needed.
  5. Teach CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard classes as needed.
  6. Train new Lifeguards, complete training checklist.
  7. Schedule once monthly In-Service trainings in cooperation with Aquatics Director for Lifeguards and Swim Lesson Instructor staff.
  8. Conduct In-Service trainings in cooperation with Aquatics Director.
  9. Make calls, text, post on facebook, and inform all staff and instructors of upcoming meetings and trainings at least a week in advance.
  10. Puck drop and vigilant voice with every Lifeguard once a month and log in in-service log
  11. Maintain in-service log books in cooperation with Aquatics Director.
  12. Keep up Swim Lesson Instructor trainings in cooperation with Aquatics Director.
  13. Keep in constant contact with Aquatics Director.
  14. Be on call as the Head of the Aquatics Department in the absence of the Aquatics Director.
  15. Create and maintain Lifeguard and Swim Lesson Instructor guidelines in cooperation with Aquatics Director.
  16. Create and maintain guidelines for swim lessons in cooperation with Aquatics Director.
  17. Assist in evaluations of staff in cooperation with Aquatics Director.
  18. Maintain day-to-day operations of the aquatic facility maintenance in cooperation with Aquatics Director: chemicals, cleaning and backwashing.
  19. Daily check and log pH and chlorine, and weekly check and log alkalinity and calcium hardness, in all three bodies of water
  20. Daily check and log ORP and pH in chlorine room as well as any maintenance done in either chlorine or CO2 room.

 

 

 

 

Lifeguards

  2. Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer; AED; Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen.
  3. Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent
  4. Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
  5. Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  6. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for the safety of all patrons in the swimming pool this includes proper care for patrons in any and all emergencies and ensuring that all rules for the swimming pool are followed by all patrons.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following, other duties may be assigned:

  1. Thinks, communicates and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions.
  2. Reports in uniform (swimsuit, guard shirt, towel, whistle, rescue tube and barrier) to station when scheduled shift begins.
  3. Maintains active surveillance of the pool area; refrains from socializing while guarding.
  4. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model. Completes related reports as required.
  5. Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff. Knows, understands and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Rules are explained and enforced in a courteous, professional and firm manner.
  6. Maintains accurate records as required by the state Health Department code. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment (lifeguarding, rescue and first aid) is available and functional; reports concerns to Aquatics Director immediately.
  7. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving; reports any concerns to the Aquatics Director immediately.
  8. Clears all swimmers from the water during an electrical storm and adverse weather conditions as directed by the Aquatics Director.
  9. Secures pool by locking all doors when a lifeguard is not on duty.
  10. Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.
  11. Attends all staff meetings and in-service training. Participates in emergency drills and procedures to the highest level that your training and the situation permits.
