Job Description

Under the direction of Program Specialist of Wasatch Adaptive Sports.  
Teach adaptive, alpine and Nordic skiing and snowshoeing in winter months to children, adults and veterans with adaptive needs. Teach hiking skills, handcycling, bicycling, adventure studies, orienteering and related activities in summer months to children, adults and veterans with adaptive needs.  

Position Functions / Areas of Responsibility
1.    Teach winter and summer activities to children, adults and veterans with adaptive needs.
2.    Actively pursue PSIA certifications.
3.    Develop a strong teaching progression by attending PSIA and inhouse clinics on a year-round basis.
4.    Learn about the all disabilities WAS works with.
5.    Develop a strong pre-lesson and on-hill assessment by working with supervisors and shadowing lessons.  Make sure equipment matches student's needs.
6.    Develop a strong skill set in your student and make sure you teach to the student's skill level.
7.    Create a positive outcome at the end of each lesson.
8.    Record progression at the end of each lesson.
9.    Travel: Occasional trips to Salt Lake Valley.

1.    Direct and continuous contact with guests.
2.    Direct and continuous contact with co-workers, management, and other departments.
3.    Must have the ability to interact at any time with guests and other employees in a pleasant manner and maintain good working relationships with others and all departments at Snowbird.

Education & Experience Requirements
-  High School Diploma or equivalent required.
-  Associates degree in related field.  Additional related work experience may be substituted for education.
-  1-2 years of job-specific work experience with demonstrated competence.

Specific Requirements:
-  Must be at least 21 years of age.
-  Must be able to ski or snowboard and have the ability to pass a physical capacity exam.
-  Food Handler Permit


Skills & Knowledge
Technical:    
2 years experience in teaching skiing and summer activities to people with adaptive needs. PSIA Certification preferred.

Working Conditions
Work Schedule:
-  Specific Shift: Day shifts, 2-4 days per week, Mon-Sun, 5-8 hours ea.
Mental:
-  Must be prepared to stay overnight if necessary on occasional times of road closures.
-  May experience unusual stress from continual work with public, winter conditions, snow night requirements and commuting to/from Snowbird.
Physical:
-  Must be able to lift 60+ lbs.
-  Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
-  Must demonstrate ability to bend, kneel, handle, reach, grasp and perform repetitive motions.
-  Work is outdoors and requires constant exposure to cold and other extreme weather conditions.  
-  Other/Additional:  Must submit to background check.
