Job Description

Abiomed’s V&V organization is looking for an experienced Sr. Software Automation Engineer to join its Test Automation team. This role will focus on developing automation software to control cardiac assist devices, simulators and other tools as required. You will work in an Agile SDLC environment working closely with other engineers to create automated acceptance tests, smoke tests, regression tests, and reporting metrics. The right candidate will have the skills to develop clean, modular and sustainable code. Experience working in a medical or biomedical field is preferred but not required.

In addition to writing software automation code responsibilities include participation in other aspects of V&V activities, such as but not limited to hands-on manual testing, reviewing test cases, and attending engineering meetings. You will actively review existing test automation processes and make recommendations to implement improvements and/or execute on them.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and understand test requirements; devise automated solutions.
  • Understand product risk and mitigation; design tools for verification.
  • Transition user stories, manual test procedures and engineering requirements into smoke tests, regression tests, and other forms of reusable automation.
  • Assist other automation engineers towards the team goals and objectives.
  • Update and maintain automation for new version releases and other special requirements.
  • Represent and demonstrate test automation as requested, present materials in management-level meetings, and answer questions.
  • Review existing automation processes and continually make improvements.
  • Be a mentor to others in the automation team, oversee and help with their progress.
  • Consistently meet deliverable commitments and build predictable schedules.
  • Work closely with engineers in all areas to cover dependencies and enroll participation.
  • Manual hands-on testing is expected whenever automation is not possible.




Skills/Requirements
  • 6+ years’ of professional experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a software automation engineer.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and continuous integration processes preferred.
  • Experience documenting test procedures and results in a regulated (FDA) environment.
  • Exposure to FDA Medical Device Guidance Documents (ANSI/AAMI//IEC 62304 and ISO 13485)
  • Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (QNX) preferred.
  • Experience testing medical devices preferred, under FDA regulatory guidelines.
  • Experience designing and/or working with hardware test fixtures is preferred.
  • Experience with defect tracking systems, writing clear and reproducible defect reports.
  • Must be proficient with Python and other scripting languages.
  • Experience with one or more development languages and tools (C, C++, C#, S.O.L.I.D), preferred.
  • Familiarity in the principles of cardiovascular physiology is a plus.
  • Requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with communication protocols such as FTP, Telnet, TCP/IP, and UDP is preferred.
  • Experience using development and deployment tools (Jenkins, Jira, Confluence, etc.).Ex
  • Experience working with embedded system preferred
