Job Description

Overview:

 The Strategic Sourcing Manager is responsible for the company’s end to end sourcing of products and services essential to our operations.  This includes identifying cost saving opportunities, understanding supply markets, creatively negotiating, ensuring stakeholder buy-in for new suppliers and products, and generating contracts. This position will manage the Strategic Sourcing function, but will also be expected to lead sourcing initiatives.

 

Essential Duties               

Develop and implement strategies to manage key spend categories and all sourcing processes: 

- Continuously improve processes within the team to improve efficiency and effectiveness of sourcing projects and supplier management.

- Research and employ innovative sourcing methodologies and strategies in order to ensure maximum benefit for the business

Identify and prioritize sourcing initiatives to be completed: 

- Conduct cost and market analyses to benchmark current suppliers and solutions.

- Determine potential sourcing initiatives, with the goal of driving supplier performance improvement and cost savings.

Support successful completion of all sourcing initiatives:

- Develop and manage RFP’s and lead supplier negotiations.

- Ensure successful implementation of supplier agreements by working with cross-functional stakeholders and suppliers.

- Influence and persuade internal stakeholders and drive change throughout the organization.

- Develop systems and processes to monitor contract compliance.  Work within the organization to identify barriers to compliance and develop creative solutions to remove those barriers.

 Manage critical suppliers:

- Act as a reliable and well trusted interface between the organization and suppliers.

- Develop a supplier management program with key suppliers including metrics, performance goals and improvement initiatives.

Lead the team:

- Set annual team goals and identify key improvement initiatives.

- Track and report progress towards goals. Work within and outside the team to meet performance targets

- Oversee staffing, training and development of direct reports.

 Performs other duties as assigned.

Proficiency with:

Knowledge:

- Thorough knowledge of Strategic Sourcing and Procurement processes

- Strong business acumen and understanding of business trends

- Familiarity with gas compression and / or rotating equipment preferred

 

Minimum Education and Certification:

- Bachelor’s degree in a supply chain, engineering or business-related field

- Participation and/or collaboration with Professional Associations in Purchasing/Material Management preferred

 

Minimum Experience:

- Typically at least 10 years of related experience in a purchasing / strategic sourcing role

- Previous leadership experience is preferred

- Experience managing costs and budgets

Leadership:

- Manages all resources (personnel, equipment, materials, facilities, funds and reputation) for assigned area

- Coordinates schedule and sets priorities in order to ensure task completion

- Analyzes company activity and market and delivery conditions to determine present and future workload and staffing needs and adjusts accordingly

- Assesses training needs and ensures that team members are receiving proper training and that training programs are utilized and improve training gaps

- Responsible for performance management and employee development

- Manages hire, fire, job and salary change actions per delegation of authority and required approvals

- Implements, manages and communicates work standards and performance metrics for assigned team

Problem Solving and Innovation:

- Analyzes performance data on an on-going basis and develops recovery plans as needed

- Finds immediate solutions to resolve conflicts between supplier and company requirements

- Implements preventative and corrective actions in a timely manner

- Expected to drive process improvements and to teach others to identify opportunities, provide ideas, methods and innovations and to implement improvements to enhance safety, teamwork, efficiency and quality

- Full responsibility and impact on planning, scheduling and procedural change for assigned area

- Accountable for HSE performance, service quality of assigned team and customer satisfaction

- Assists with preparation of the budget for assigned area, manages to budget, reports variances and develops recovery plans as needed
