Job Description

 

This position is responsible for leading a highly skilled engineering organization, compromised of electrical, mechanical, and software engineering disciplines, with key accountabilities for complaint handling, failure investigations, product improvements, and ensuring engineering robustness in supply chain and production matters.

 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Establish a culture of excellence in execution, continuous improvement, and communication across the Lifecycle Engineering team. 
  • Supervising others and/or acting as primary contact for all customer experience reporting and complaint handling activities related to Abiomed products.
  • Collaborate with Sales personnel, Customer Service, Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Clinical Affairs, and physician users during the failure investigation process, while supervising the pursuit of the root cause of customer failures.
  • Monitor the complaint handling process in order to ensure timely complaint resolution and to promote customer satisfaction.  Where able, identify potential for improvement and streamlining to the current process. 
  • Perform statistical analysis to identify trends and provide input to management on new product failure modes, which may necessitate new design changes, possible containment projects, and corrective and preventative actions (CAPA).   
  • Organize, prioritize, and implement improvement projects around existing commercial products in order to enhance the overall customer experience.   
  • Oversee sustaining engineering activities by the timely disposition of non-conforming material, resolve producibility issues with internal and external manufacturing partners, make technical recommendations during obsolescence evaluation and collaborate with cross-functional partners for effective implementation.

 

 





Skills/Requirements

Job Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering or directly related to scientific discipline, MS degree preferred.
  • At least 10 years’ of directly related work experience; extensive medical device experience required.
  •  Knowledge of various clinical environments, including the catherization lab, operating room, and intensive care unit, is highly desired. 
  • Exposure to manufacturing processes such as injection molding, extrusion and fabrication desired. 
  • Ability to communicate ideas and information clearly, effectively and frequently (oral or written).
  • Demonstrated history of meeting the expectation and requirements of internal/external customers.
  • A history of sound judgment and decision-making; ability to balance cost, schedules and quality objectives.
  • Technical leadership and mentoring skills with a clear high performance orientation; demonstrates energy, enthusiasm, and creativity in problem solving. 
  • Demonstrated performance development, building and leveraging partnerships, and continuous innovation and improvement.
  • Self-motivated and self-disciplined. 
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.  Working knowledge of SAP and Salesforce desired.
  • May require up to 15% travel – US & EU.
