Job Description

Purpose:
Under the direction of the Lodging Director, oversees the day to day operation of child care programs including a summer camp (ages 5-12) and nursery (winter only).    

Position Functions / Areas of Responsibility
1. Oversees the development and implementation of new programs. Responsible for the hiring and training of new personnel. Monitors and evaluates employee performance. Creates employee work schedule. Assists staff when necessary. Answers telephone and addresses parent’s questions or concerns. Develops training materials and conducts in-service training to satisfy up to 5 hours of the state childcare continuing education credits.
2. Oversees the processing of departmental documents, such as payroll and internal operating reports. Completes state paperwork and ensures the department meets federal, state and local licensing requirements for the overall organization, management, operation and control of the facility. Monitors inventory and cost controls.
3. Conducts staff meetings. Receives outside training and attends association and manager’s meetings.
4. The director shall ensure the adequate direct supervision is maintained whenever the program is operating. Develops work rules and procedures, which ensure compliance with safety standards. Ensures that the camp is organized and equipment is used in a safe manner. Enforces all rules and regulations. Remains aware of unsafe practices and conditions. Takes immediate and appropriate action to correct irregularities. Works to create a safe working environment. Trains employees in proper safety procedures.

Interactions
1. Direct and continuous contact with guests.
2. Direct and continuous contact with co-workers, management, and other departments.
3. Must have the ability to interact at any time with guests and other employees in a pleasant manner and maintain good working relationships with others and all departments at Snowbird.

Education & Experience Requirements
1.      High School Diploma or equivalent required
2.      College degree in related field preferred.  Additional related work experience may be substituted for education.
3.      3-5 years of job-specific work experience with demonstrated competence, including supervisory experience.

Specific Requirements:
1.      Must be at least 21 years of age.
2.      Child Care Food Handler Permit/ TB test.

Skills & Knowledge
Technical: 
1.      Must have knowledge of applicable laws and rules. Must demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and arithmetic.  Uses 10-key calculator and multiline phone. Must operate an IBM compatible computer with Microsoft software programs, SMS Host reservation, and Stratten Warren purchasing.

Administrative: 
1.       Requires setting standards and formulating work rules and procedures within established policy. Involves making decisions regarding scheduling and personnel employment, retention, discipline, or promotion. Requires significant input into major decisions affecting department policies.  Requires great flexibility and the ability to handle many tasks at once. Must have knowledge of all applicable laws and rules. Requires the ability to communicate clearly and precisely in situations of training and in the explanation of care or safety procedures. Must be able to confidently work with children of all ages and lift 50 pounds or more. Decisively acts to resolve problems of concern to parents. Determines changes to be made in the center regarding licensing, health, and safety regulations. Develops work rules and procedures with the Assistant Director, which ensures compliance with safety standards. Ensures the camp is organized and the equipment is used in a safe manner. Enforces all rules and regulations. Remains alert for unsafe practices and conditions. Responsible for the care, maintenance, and cleanliness of all equipment in both infant and children’s center.  Takes immediate action to correct any irregularities. Works to create a safe working environment. Responsible for any cash or checks received while working the front desk. Responsible for all property of Camp Snowbird and for all actions of department staff. Responsible for monitoring the use of all department-related equipment to ensure the preservation of Snowbird property.

Working Conditions

Work Schedule:
1.      Shifts vary, may be early morning or late evening, weekends, holidays, depending on business levels. Work schedule may also require overnight stays at the resort.
 
Mental:
1.      Must be prepared to stay overnight if necessary on occasional times of road closures.
2.      May experience unusual stress from high business volumes, deadlines, continual work with public, winter conditions, snow night requirements and commuting to/from Snowbird.

Physical:
1.      Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
2.      Must demonstrate ability to bend, kneel, handle, reach, grasp and perform repetitive motions.
3.      Work is subject to frequent interruptions making continuity and accuracy difficult, frequent exposure to noise.
