Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY The Director of Marketing is a full-time Marketing staff position responsible for creating, managing, and assessing marketing and retention efforts for more than 100 concerts annually, with a primary focus on Live at Powell Hall events. The Director of Marketing plans and implements direct, promotional and loyalty strategies on behalf of the St. Louis Symphony. This is a key leadership position within the Marketing team and will include managing several direct reports. This position reports to the Senior Director of Marketing. 1. Creates, manages, coordinates, and executes all marketing strategies for Live at Powell events including holiday season via broadcast media, direct response, promotional campaigns and grassroots efforts. 2. Monitor the progress of sales campaigns and provide reports, analyses, and assessments to recommend strategies to achieve desired results. 3. Participate in planning and scheduling of future Live at Powell Hall events in coordination and collaboration with cross departmental task force. 4. Create and implement marketing plans for the Family Series including subscription campaign and single ticket initiatives via broadcast media, direct response and promotional campaigns. 5. Manage Compose Your Own (CYO) campaign ensuring growth and loyalty among buyers purchasing across product lines. 6. Develop strategies to segment potential audiences and devise specialized communications for those groups including: a. STL Symphony workplace program aimed at enlisting employers to promote STL Symphony concerts with new employees and those relocating to St. Louis region b. Young Friends initiatives to attract and retain younger audiences for all STL Symphony concerts 7. Manage special promotional activities and programs that drive patron retention goals. 8. Establish and nurture internal and external collaborative partnerships to achieve success. 9. Special event planning; Event staffing and administrative duties as required to manage the business. 10. Perform other duties as needed or directed. 11. Perform concert duty as required.





Skills/Requirements

Experience: Degree in Marketing, Communications or Arts Management and/or related field preferred. A Minimum of five to eight years of direct and/or promotional marketing experience demonstrating increased responsibility and accountability. Prior management and supervisory experience leading multiple direct reports. Direct experience with a symphony orchestra and/or performing arts presenter highly preferred. Thorough working knowledge and understanding of marketing systems, ticketing and subscription based sales. Skills and Abilities: 1. Must possess written and verbal communication and negotiation skills with the ability to influence others; includes preparation of persuasive written documents as well as public speaking. 2. Candidate must possess both a marketing mindset including strong writing, sales and market segmentation skills and technical knowledge and skills. 3. Proven experience in managing customer loyalty programs along with a proven track record of success in building programs and increasing overall customer satisfaction. 4. Knowledge and experience with analytics, web based marketing and social media. 5. Proven ability to provide direction on creative concepts, as well as develop promotional ideas. 6. Under direction, ability to plan and arrange a significant portion of own work referring only unusual cases to supervisor. 7. Ability to apply principles to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables. 8. Exceptional attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment. 9. Ability to project a polished professional image that positively reflects on the organization. 10. Ability to communicate and build relationships with internal and external contacts with high degree of persuasion and diplomacy. 11. Ability to work with confidential data. 12. Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office, social media platforms, marketing systems, and Tessitura (or other arts management software). 13. Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating with internal and external contacts using considerable tact required to achieve results. 14. Ability to work some evenings and weekends to perform concert duty or execute marketing projects.
