BBYO is the leading pluralistic, Jewish teen movement and has been providing exceptional leadership programs and identity enrichment experiences for 90 years. We offer year-round activities in hundreds of local communities and inspiring world-wide travel experiences enabling teens to explore areas of leadership, service, civic engagement, Israel education and Jewish values.

BBYO is a brand which, over the course of the past five years, has been revitalized through a visual and personality rebranding. BBYO has been recognized time and again for its deep understanding of the teen audience, its powerful online presence and its strategic use of social media. 

Position Summary:        

The Director of Marketing and Communications will serve as the chief creative professional in the organization, overseeing all marketing and communications functions, including brand management, strategic planning for key objectives, media relations, internal and external communications, social media, graphic design, the BBYO.org website, marketing and traditional and digital advertising for all of BBYO’s products - membership, summer and school year travel programs and key events and initiatives. The position will lead a team of three individuals and oversee a $400,000+ budget.  The Director is responsible for overseeing the creation of print and online, traditional and non-traditional marketing deliverables to promote BBYO and its programs, initiatives and campaigns to multiple internal and external audiences including teens, parents, alumni, stakeholders, volunteer advisors, staff and partner agencies.

BBYO’s marketing department acts as an in house marketing and communication firm, with clients including the development and program departments, 40 regional field offices and the brand.  The Director acts as a creative partner to all departments, coordinating deliverables to align with objectives.  The Director will oversee a talented staff, including a graphic designer, marketing and communication manager and web manager. In addition, the Director will work closely with a variety of vendors, BBYO’s management team and all divisions of the organization across North America. The Director is a key leader of the management team and will serve to create a collaborative environment with a diverse team of professionals responsible for leading an organization on the rise.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the creation of BBYO resources and collateral designed to grow and enhance the BBYO brand in communities throughout North America and around the world. 
  • Oversee the development and management of BBYO’s comprehensive and integrated communications strategy to be implemented across field and international offices using multiple channels.
  • Oversee and partner with program leads in the development of an overall marketing plan to meet BBYO’s key objectives.
  • Create and proactively maintain a positive external image for BBYO using both traditional and non-traditional strategies.
  • Develop and grow strategic partnerships with both Jewish and secular brands.
  • Develop a departmental plan with goals, strategies and timelines for implementation. Manage staff work against plan.
  • Partner with internal department heads and field professionals to maximize opportunities to promote BBYO and sell key products, experiences and initiatives.
  • Oversee the messaging, communication and branded environment of BBYO International Convention, the organization’s annual conference bringing together 2,500+ stakeholders.
  • Provide trusted and authoritative strategic guidance to Chief Executive Officer, Board of Directors, fellow senior management team members and field professionals on all marketing and communications matters.
  • Serve as brand manager and an official BBYO spokesperson on a wide range of issues.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 7 years of work experience in the marketing and communications field, with at least two years at the management level.
  • Expertise with email, direct mail and social media communication strategies.
  • Experience leading social and digital advertising campaigns with analyzed results.
  • Experience managing collateral production, from ideation to distribution, including coordination with vendors.
  • A keen understanding of audience segmentation strategies for communication and advertising.
  • Data driven decision maker; understands Google Analytics, social analytics and behavior drivers.  Uses data to make informed recommendations and decisions.
  • Experience in website project management and content best practices.  Experience with Kentico, Salesforce a plus.
  • Ability to execute and perform under pressure, manage multiple tasks and develop solutions to problems independently.
  • Experience in leading, organizing, and coordinating departmental operations and cross-departmental projects, and developing and managing budgets.
  • Excellent supervision, mentoring and people management skills.
  • Detail- and results-oriented, innovative, creative and a strategic thinker and calculated risk-taker.
  • Visionary leader with demonstrated team-building skills.
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment.
  • Passion for BBYO’s mission; an understanding of the importance of inspiring teens.
  • Strong relationships with reporters and journalists in Jewish and secular media a plus.
  • For-profit work experience is desirable.
  • Willingness to travel (15%) and occasionally work non-traditional hours (weekends and evenings) to meet requirements of the position. Must be willing to work at BBYO’s International Convention each February.
  • A college degree is required.
