Job Description

Purpose:
Under the direction of  the VP of Resort Operations and the President/CEO.
The Director of Marketing is responsible for creation and implementation of the branding, marketing and communications strategies for the resort and its profit centers.
     
Position Functions / Areas of Responsibility
1.    Provide strong and balanced leadership to a diverse marketing / communications team and set annual individual/group performance objectives. This includes overseeing an in-house creative team (graphic design / web development / photography).
2.    Develop key marketing/communication strategies and implement the plans to achieve business objectives at the resort, including: paid skier days, season pass sale, lodging nights and profit center revenues (Food & Beverage/Mountain School/Retail/Rental/Activities/Group & Conference Sales).
3.    Oversee the planning and purchasing of all local, regional and national paid-media. This media includes digital, social, television, print, radio and outdoor. This may involve the outside support from an agency or independent media planner/buyer.
4.    Maintain oversight of resort direct mail/e-mail marketing efforts, including the development of a strong CRM plan and healthy resort database.
5.    Drive overall social media strategy and provide strong tactical leadership to the social media manager/coordinators.
6.    Manage the annual marketing communications budget, provide accurate forecasting and oversee all departmental expenses.
7.    Provide additional marketing / communication support to Events, Group Sales and Human Resources (Recruiting).
8.    Manage communication with important community and employee constituencies relative to marketing initiatives, brand strategy/standards, etc.
9.    Manage marketing contracts and programs with creative agencies, partners, etc.
10.  Travel: Occasional business trips within/outside Utah.


Interactions
1.    Occasional contact with guests.
2.    Direct and continuous contact with co-workers, management and other departments.
3.    Must have the ability to interact at any time with guests and other employees in a pleasant manner and maintain good working relationships with others and all departments at Snowbird.
4.    Primary focus is working closely with resort profit centers and stakeholders, including mountain/resort operations and human resources.
5.     Provide resort representation to outside entities, including: Ski Utah, VSL/Ski City, Sandy City, local government, regional Chamber of Commerce, Wasatch Adaptive Sports, Mountain Collective, etc.

Education & Experience Requirements
1.  High School Diploma or equivalent required.
2.  Bachelor's Degree in a related field required.
3.  Minimum 10 years of marketing and communications experience required. Minimum 5 years’ experience in the areas of digital and social marketing required.  Minimum 5 years of leadership experience required.

Specific Requirements:
1.  Must be at least 21 years of age.
2.  Must be able to ski or snowboard.

Skills & Knowledge
Technical:    
Strong negotiation skills and the ability to solve complex problems. Demonstrated ability to engage in cross-functional collaboration.  Ability to process research and business data to provide valuable insights and observations.  Excellent oral and written communication abilities required. Minimum intermediate skiing/riding ability with a passion for the outdoors required.

Administrative:    
Microsoft application proficiency required (Word/PowerPoint/Excel) and some familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite preferred. Experience providing presentations to groups required

Working Conditions
Work Schedule:
1.  Shifts vary, may be early morning or late evening, weekends, holidays, depending on business levels.
2.  Monday-Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, with some nights and weekends as required by workload and special events.  
 
Mental:
1.  Must be prepared to stay overnight if necessary on occasional times of road closures.
2.  May experience unusual stress from high business volumes, deadlines, continual work with public, winter conditions, snow night requirements and commuting to/from Snowbird.

Physical:
1.  General office environment with limited physical activity.
2.  Work is routine in pleasant, comfortable surroundings. General office conditions prevail.
