Job Description

This position is mainly an independent contributor with cross-discipline responsibilities. Its primary focus is on the technical side of the issue, with minor organization role in driving cultural change and process change to elevate reliability awareness and practice.

 Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the creation of an Abiomed reliability program aiming at continuously improving the reliability of the Automated Impella Controller, the Impella blood pumps, and the accessories, both in terms of design and manufacturing.
  • Evaluate reliability of existing and new product.
  • Establish an early warning system to intercept reliability related quality problem that could happen in near term future.
  • Being the technical lead of all reliability issues.
  • Infuse a reliability conscious culture in Abiomed.
  • Lead in the reliability aspect of new product development process.

 





Skills/Requirements

 

Skills/Requirements

  • MS degree in engineering or a science discipline. Ph.D. preferred.
  • Extensive experience in reliability calculation, modeling, and physics-based and mathematics based analysis.
  • Extensive experience in failure and root cause analysis. Hands on experience in failure investigation.
  • Knowledge in various kinds of investigation tools such as chemical analysis, Infrared imaging, X-ray, SEM, focused ion-beam, SW tools such as minitab, Weibull++.
  • Fundamental understanding of statistics – ability to perform statistical analysis without any statistical packages such as Minitab.
  • Multi-industry experience a plus.
  • Programming experience a plus (example: C, python, Labview, Perl).
  • A contrarian and independent thinker.
