Job Description

*Tentative start date, first of November 2017


Under the direction of Ski Patrol Director.
This is an entry level training position for the ski patrol. It is designed for people who are interested in pursuing employment as a Snowbird ski patroller but have no/ little prior ski patrol experience and/or no/little site specific experience at Snowbird.

Position Functions / Areas of Responsibility
1. Monitor general safety of slopes on a daily basis. Erect signs and barricades to be consistent with Snowbird’s hazard marking policy. Taking the initiative to search out and correct hazards.
2. Repair and maintain in operational readiness  all  caches of equipment, signs, fences, toboggans, ropes, rescue equipment, buildings, snowmobiles, etc.
3. Observation and enforcement of mountain policies in the areas of fast/ reckless skiing/ boarding and violation of closed areas and closed avalanche danger areas.
4. Customer Service – present an image of courtesy, efficiency and competence. Provide friendly assistance and advice to guests. Handle situations involving emergencies, violations or crowd control in a calm and professional manner.
5. Responsible for learning all the material in the Snowbird Ski Patrol Handbook. This reference should give a basic overview of the program and expectations. Every attempt is made to train personnel and to rotate assignments in such a way that over time each trail crew member becomes competent to handle any problem that could arise.

1. Direct and continuous contact with guests.
2. Direct and continuous contact with co-workers, management, and other departments.
3. Must have the ability to interact at any time with guests and other employees in a pleasant manner and maintain good working relationships with others and all departments at Snowbird.

Education & Experience Requirements
1. High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Specific Requirements:
1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
2. Must be able to ski and have the ability to pass a knee physical.

3. Must have current CPR certification.
3. OEC Certification required.


Skills & Knowledge
Technical: 
Uses two-way radios, small hand tools, electric and gas powered tools, rescue equipment (i.e. snowmobiles,ropes, transceivers, toboggans, chairlift evacuation equipment, etc.), and medical equipment (i.e.
splints, backboards, heart monitors, etc.) as training allows, snowmobiles. Uses explosives in avalanche control.

Administrative: 
Communicating with supervisory staff and mountain dispatch regarding assignment and completion of daily assigned tasks.

Working Conditions
Work Schedule:
1. Regularly scheduled work shifts, requires being on-call and working weekends, holidays, and some evenings.

Mental:
1. Must be prepared to stay overnight if necessary on occasional times of road closures.
2. May experience unusual stress from continual work with public, winter conditions, snow night requirements and commuting to/from Snowbird.

Physical:
1. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
2. Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
3. Must demonstrate ability to bend, kneel, handle, reach, grasp and perform repetitive motions.
4. Work is outdoors and requires constant exposure to cold and other extreme weather conditions. 
5. Work is subject to frequent interruptions making continuity and accuracy difficult, frequent exposure to noise.
