About the Position:

The Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy Systems (CSE) is looking for an Fellow to join its Building Energy Efficiency Group to contribute to its building energy modeling activities. This is an opportunity to work with one of the world's leading research groups to analyze the performance of advanced building enclosure systems.  You’ll be a key part of a dynamic team based in Boston, Massachusetts working on sustainable energy technology development.  Fellowship positions typically last for 6 months, but longer durations can also be accommodated.  Many interns go on to find successful employment because of the practical experience acquired at Fraunhofer CSE. This is an on going requirement and we encourage applications.

Responsibilities and Learning Opportunities:

• Work with the building energy efficiency team on projects to simulate the energy performance of innovative energy efficiency measures/system in various climates
• Assist with data analysis including determination of heat flows, temperature profiles, energy consumption, and comfort conditions
• Learn how to analyze and evaluate the energy impact of advanced building envelope concepts
• Assist with 1-D, 2-D, and 3-D thermal modeling of wall components and assemblies 

Desired Experience and Education:

• An excellent academic record in a relevant discipline (e.g., Building Science, Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering)
• Experience in thermal science and analysis; in particular, experience modeling and analyzing building systems is preferred
• Thermal and/or CFD modeling skills also preferred
• Sound verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to accept a high degree of responsibility in a team-based organization, combined with ability to work independently
• Going the extra mile to support the team’s research projects
