Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The E-Commerce Search Analyst is responsible for oversight of Menards overall company website search strategy. The Search Analyst works independently under the direction of the E-Commerce General Manager to improve the search results shown on the website through the analysis using reporting tools, testing and implementing successful business changes.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analysis using reporting tools from current search provider to identify lapses in search results and to test and implement expedient changes.
  • Work directly with the search provider to determine and define best practices for Menards search strategy and test, implement, and report on these practices and the overall effect to KPIs.
  • Act as the primary search strategy agent while coordinating input from all levels of the organization to improve the search holistically for guests.
  • Review search results reporting to identify searches that lead to an exit or ‘dead end’ the guest and to test and implement solutions to that term and underlying search metrics that may lead to it.
  • Identify and correct search terms that lead to high volume results and to better narrow the results to the expected product and categories. Corrective measures are tested on preview prior to production.
  • Analysis of weekly search trends and terms for immediate resolution of searches that lead to unsuccessful results.
  • Analysis of historic (11 month trend) searches in terms of seasonality trends. In June of 2016, the Search Analyst will be reviewing search terms of July 2015.
  • Analysis of Menards promotional ads and marketing efforts. Review the ad schedule to test and correct any foreshadowed issues with search stemming from the events. Work with E-Commerce Marketing Specialist for development of linking for ads to ensure the best results. Additionally, work in conjunction with the E-Commerce Marketing Specialist to coordinate marketing text used in print ads.
  • Review, maintain, and manage synonym and direct to category list as tested against current search tool metrics to ensure successful use of synonyms and direct to category where appropriate.
  • Work with Graphic Design Team Lead on direct to category terms or any category title revisions to ensure consistency of search links on the site.
  • Work with Senior Product Specialist to define and maintain the meta-keywords for products as supplied by vendor and how these are weighted with the search provider to affect successful search results.
  • Test and manage direct to faceting where appropriate or category boosting to direct search of key terms to the appropriate area.
  • Perform A/B testing methodology on search to drive search to perform in a way that drives an increase in key KPIs, especially as concerned with conversion rates of sessions.
  • Measure and report on search usages and improvements through analytics metrics.
  • Develop and execute standard practices for Menards business search improvement methodology.
  • Review search methodology on all platforms including tablet, internal and external desktop, mobile web and mobile app for usability and functionality.  
  • Monitor and evaluate search results and search performance and report recommendations to the E-Commerce General Manager
  • Other duties as assigned by the E-Commerce General Manager




Skills/Requirements

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Management, Marketing, Retail Merchandising or a related field or have equivalent experience in retail
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Outstanding ability to think creatively, and identify and resolve problems
  • Ability to communicate in a professional and articulate manner, both verbally and written
  • Ability to solve difficult problems and come up with effective solutions
  • Ability to plan and organize work in an efficient manner, adept at prioritizing and hitting deadlines
  • Must have a positive attitude
  • Must be willing to work overtime & occasional weekends
  • Must be willing to relocate to Eau Claire, WI
