Job Description

Athens Technical College in Athens, Georgia, is seeking qualified candidates for a Federal Work Study – Science Laboratory Assistant for the Biotechnology Program. This person will be responsible to the Science Laboratory Manager and Faculty members as assigned, performing a variety of laboratory support functions. 

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Clean laboratories, wash glassware and stock lab supplies (gloves, wipes, paper towels, rinse bottles, soap, etc)  for class use.
  • Prepare materials for lab activities, including make chemical solutions, prepare dissections, transfer bacterial cultures, set up equipment, microscope slides, etc. (Detailed instruction will be provided.)
  • Receive, unpack, date and shelve incoming chemicals and supplies; help prepare orders for replacing out of stock items.
  • Check classroom copiers to be sure they are supplied with paper, restock when needed; assist instructors when needed.
  • Put away lab equipment and supplies in proper places.
  • Maintain aquaria, plants, animals and bacterial cultures as directed.
  • Assist in maintaining Chemical Inventory, Laboratory Equipment and Supply Inventory, and Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) files and be comfortable using the internet for research.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 





Skills/Requirements

Responsible to the Science Laboratory Manager and Faculty members as assigned, performing a variety of laboratory support functions.

To be eligible for this position, candidates must be a current student AND be receiving Pell money for the current term. In addition, candidates must have completed CHEM 1211/L and BIOL 1111/L. Completion of EITHER BTEC 2191/L or BIOL 2117/L is a plus.
