Job Description

**Position becomes part-time when Camp Snowbird is not open. (Spring and Fall)

Purpose:
Under the direction of The Director of Camp Snowbird.
Oversees Camp Snowbird in the absence of the Director. Offers assistance or guidance to staff. Directs the morning check in of children. Directs afternoon check out of children.

Position Functions / Areas of Responsibility
1. Assists in the development and implementation of new programs. Responsible for the hiring and training of new personnel. Monitors and evaluates employee performance. Creates employee work schedule. Assists staff when necessary. Answers telephone and addresses parent’s questions or concerns. Handle issues concerning the interface of Mountain School and Camp Snowbird, with the mountain school supervisors. Develops training materials and conducts in-service training to satisfy up to 5 hours of the state childcare continuing education credits.
2. Assists in the processing of departmental documents, such as payroll and internal operating reports. Completes state paperwork and ensures the department meets federal, state and local licensing requirements for the overall organization, management, operation and control of the facility. Monitors inventory and cost controls.
3. Occasionally conducts staff meetings. Receives outside training and attends association and manager’s meetings in Director’s absence.
4. Assists in developing work rules and procedures, which ensure compliance with safety standards. Ensures that the camp is organized and equipment is used in a safe manner. Enforces all rules and regulations. Remains aware of unsafe practices and conditions. Takes immediate and appropriate action to correct irregularities. Works to create a safe working environment. Trains employees in proper safety procedures.
5. Assists in training and delegating duties to staff. Handles daily deposits. Ensures that the center’s compliance with health and safety codes is maintained. Assists in organizing new programs and marketing activities. Works with the Director to increase revenue and manage the budget.
6. Assists the Director in the management of Children and Infant Centers’ staff. Handles any cash transactions and makes daily deposit. Reviews licensing, health and safety codes periodically to ensure center’s compliance. Trains and advises staff of improper procedures and safety measures. Directs any necessary changes. Performs other duties as needed.

3. Must have the ability to interact at any time with guests and other employees in a pleasant manner and maintain good working relationships with others and all departments at Snowbird.

Education & Experience Requirements
1.      High School Diploma or equivalent required
2.      College degree in related field preferred.  Additional related work experience may be substituted for education.
3.      2-4 years of job-specific work experience with demonstrated competence.

Specific Requirements:
1.      Must be at least 21 years of age.
2.      Child Care Food Handler Permit.  TB Test.   

Preferred Requirements:

1.      A national or state certification such as Certified Childcare Professional, National Administrator Credential, Childhood Development Associate (CDA); or 10 hours annual CEU credits from accredited childcare sources.


Skills & Knowledge
Technical: 
Must demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and arithmetic.  Uses 10-key calculator and multiline phone. Must operate an IBM compatible computer with Microsoft software programs, SMS Host reservation and Springer Miller ordering.

Administrative: 
Must have knowledge of all applicable laws and rules. Requires great flexibility and the ability to handle many tasks at once. Involves making decisions regarding activities of children and employees. Decisively acts to resolve problems of concern to parents. Determines changes to be made in the center regarding licensing, health and safety regulations. The Assistant Director is responsible for the proper care and safety of children and the camp’s staff. Develops work rules and procedures with the Director, which ensures compliance with safety standards. Ensures the camp is organized and the equipment is used in a safe manner. Enforces all rules and regulations. Remains alert for unsafe practices and conditions. Takes immediate action to correct any irregularities. Works to create a safe working environment. Assists with training employees in proper safety procedures.

Working Conditions

Work Schedule:
1.Winter: Monday to Sunday, 8am to 5:30pm
2. Summer: Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 5:30pm.  Off season, 25hrs a week.

Mental:
  Must be prepared to stay overnight if necessary on occasional times of road closures.
  May experience unusual stress from high business volumes, deadlines, continual work with public, winter conditions, snow night requirements and commuting to/from Snowbird.

Physical:
  Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  Must demonstrate ability to bend, kneel, handle, reach, grasp and perform repetitive motions.
  Work is routine in pleasant, comfortable surroundings.  General office conditions prevail. 
  Other/Additional:  Stress resulting from exposure to a loud and active environment is common. Duties are frequently complicated by situations impossible to predict and by the need to follow specific licensing guidelines. Difficulties arising for the Assistant Director may result from dealing with sporadic interruptions, averaging one every four minutes, which may affect the efficient completion of the day’s tasks. The Assistant Director is required to work within very tight time frames each morning, to stay in sync with the day’s schedule. Furthermore, the position requires an individual who is talented at handling many tasks of different natures and dealing with individuals of various temperaments and natures.
