Job Description

As a critical member of Abiomed’s marketing team, the Director, Downstream Marketing is responsible for marketing our award winning Impella product line in the U.S.  Impella is now the market share leader in percutaneous heart pumps and has been growing at double digit rates for the past 4 years.  Priorities include 1) presentation of scientific and clinical data to Healthcare Providers including Interventional Cardiologists, Cardiac surgeons and hospital CEOs; 2) Expanding patient access through awareness and hospital referral networks; 3) building clinical and financial product messaging and training to support the sales team and drive growth in clinical use of Impella, 4) developing key opinion relationships in cooperation with the key account team, and 5) market analysis and competitive research. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Educate and present to customers as an established expert in heart failure, advanced cardiac treatment and patient advocate
  • Educate and present to customers as an established expert in hemodynamic support based on clinical and financial knowledge
  • Expand patient access to the therapy and launch formal programs post regulatory approval in the U.S.
  • Analyze market trends, customer needs and competitive landscape
  • Work with the Vice President Marketing, Sales and COO to build marketing programs, sales training and initiatives focused on increased awareness of the Impella technology
  • Identify and help develop relationships with customers in cooperation with the Key Account team
  • Represent product to customers, product expert for the company




Skills/Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science and Masters degree required, MD, PhD preferred
  • Interventional Cardiology is absolutely required
  • 5+ years medical affairs, medical liaison  or marketing experience in a medical company
  • Class III medical device experience a plus
  • 10+ years overall experience in the clinical setting within device/pharma industry or hospital setting
  • Excellent oral, written, presentation, and organizational skills
  • Excellent analytical and business/product strategy skills
  • Ability to set direction in highly dynamic environment
  • Self-reliant; takes initiative; results-oriented, open minded
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally approximately 30-50% of the time #LI-LG1
