Organization Summary:

Since becoming an independent international organization in 2002, BBYO has built a powerful platform of professionals, volunteers and teens that are capable of delivering a wide menu of compelling experiences developed internally and with partners. The number of teen participants has doubled to nearly 30,000, its national staff has grown to over 100 professionals, and its budget has grown to close to $20 million. During the next five years BBYO will fully leverage this platform by offering clearly defined learning objectives, more program experiences, more opportunities to connect and more substantive tools to measure impact, ultimately sending a more passionate generation of young Jews to campus and young adulthood.

Position Summary:

The Senior Graphic Designer is responsible for conceptualization and implementation of the design solutions that meet marketing strategies from concept to completion. This role works closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications, the communication coordinator, web designer and may supervise 1-2 interns at a time.

This position requires specialized knowledge of graphic design methods, techniques and trends.  It also often requires high-level internal and external client relationship management skills. The Senior Graphic Designer is expected to be able to work with the BBYO brand in a way that is both youthful and sophisticated while also relatable and tangible across a variety of mediums and for multiple stakeholder groups. This position will manage the creative for an entire marketing campaign, not just the production of specific pieces, and demonstrate an ability to keep team members working within established deadlines.

Requirements:

  • Prepares work to be accomplished by gathering information and materials.
  • Plans concept by studying information and materials.
  • Illustrates concept by designing rough layout of art and copy regarding arrangement, size, and related aesthetic concepts as well as timeline and budget, if applicable.
  • Obtains approval of concept by submitting rough layout for approval.
  • Manages design process following agreed upon timeline, including the client requested changes.
  • Prepares finished copy and art, proofreads final files and completes projects by coordinating with outside agencies, art services, printers, etc.
  • Contributes to the ongoing success of BBYO by participating in brainstorming sessions and independently and proactively engaging with colleagues to understand their work and marketing needs.

 

SKILLS:

Required:

  • The Senior Graphic Designer should demonstrate a high level of proficiency in design for web and print using multimedia software and applications, such as the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Ability to translate the existing brand standards across websites, collateral, apparel, email campaigns, advertising, exhibitions and displays, conference set up and corporate identity.
  • Knowledge of printing procedures, photography, illustration and ability to work with relevant external vendors.
  • Customer focus and ability to collaborate at the strategy planning stages.
  • Confidence and ability to present and explain ideas to clients and colleagues.
  • Flexibility to work on multiple projects with multiple clients at once.
  • Ability to handle critical feedback from supervisor and peers.
  • Attention to detail and ability to copy edit.

 

Preferred:

·         An interest in teen/youth trends.

·         Video editing skills.

·         Animation (HTML5) skills.

·         Understanding of Jewish culture and familiarity with or knowledge of the Hebrew language.

 

Experience:

  • A degree in graphic design OR other fine art.
  • Five to seven years’ experience with three to five years’ experience in lead designer roles or previous senior designer experience.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending design workshops; reviewing professional publications; participating in professional societies.
