Job Description

 

Reporting to the Senior Vice President (SVP) of Development, the Vice President (VP) of Development manages a portfolio of major donors, while also providing strategic and managerial leadership to the Development Department.  As a frontline fundraiser, s/he leads by example and inspires members of the Development staff to elevate their level of cultivating, securing, and stewarding both existing and new donors to create a robust donor pipeline for Jewish Home.  The VP oversees all major gift officers as well as corporation, foundation, and government relation directors for Jewish Home Lifecare.   The VP is responsible for working with the Campaign Coordinator to support the SVP in managing the Jewish Home’s $150 million capital campaign.  The VP works closely with the SVP to prepare the President/CEO to be successful at securing principal six- and seven-figure gifts.  The VP supports and works closely with the SVP to guide the vision and direction of development at Jewish Home, setting high standards of excellence and supporting the Development staff in consistently exceeding these standards. 

 Raises major annual and capital commitments through continuous relationship building, solicitation, and stewardship with prospective and current donors of 6-figure+ capacity.

  • Fosters an organization of continuous process improvement as it relates to internal systems and external stewardship and growth objectives, including using new technologies to build relationships with donors.
  • Contributes broadly to the development of and shares responsibility for the fulfillment of Jewish Home’s mission, strategic plan, and fundraising goals.
  • Builds an efficient, professional office to generate individual, family, corporate, foundation, and government support for fundraising needs.
  • Provides leadership to the team of Development Officers and counsel to the Senior Vice President & President/CEO, in implementing development objectives.
  • Directly manages Development staff (5 direct reports), assigns fundraising goals/objectives, and manages performance metrics that drive organizational development objectives.
  • Collaborates with the Campaign Manager to support the SVP in managing the Jewish Home’s $150 million capital campaign efforts.
  • Creative thought leader responsible for defining and implementing strategies for portfolio and prospect management for Development Officers and other senior leaders as appropriate.
  • Enlists with the SVP, the President/CEO, Executive and Leadership Teams, Board of Trustees, volunteers and staff to significantly increase visibility, enhance the reputation, and increase donations to Jewish Home through their contacts, cultivation and solicitations.
  • Partners closely with SVP to ensure a flawless donor experience and improve retention and acquisition.
  • Oversees the annual fundraising campaign and other development support activities.
  • Builds the pipeline of potential future donors that will allow the organization to strengthen its relationship with its existing giving base and broaden its support.
  • Directs and supports the consistent implementation of other Jewish Home initiatives and strategic plan advancement.

Skills/Requirements

 Bachelor’s degree and at least 7 – 10 years of experience in development, with firsthand knowledge of its major functions.

  • Successful track record of exceeding fundraising goals and a demonstrated ability to lead and inspire others.
  • Passion and understanding of the importance of quality eldercare.
  • Successful track record of cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major individual, planned, corporate, and foundation gifts.
  • Demonstrated success in the development, implementation, and evaluation of development programs.
  • Strong management skills, both strategic and operational, with a demonstrated commitment to diversity and a record of building a talented staff.
  • Experience working with a Board of Trustees.
  • Poise and executive presence which conveys a high level of credibility, integrity, and ability to maintain confidences which creates trust and communication with donors and staff.
  • Superb communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Collaborative management style that builds and develops teams throughout the organization.
  • Works well with people at all levels inside and outside the organization.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, and databases; experience with Raiser’s Edge preferred.
