Liberty Healthcare, a leading provider of behavioral health services is currently hiring for positions located at the Behavioral Health Center at The Westchester Medical Center

The Behavioral Health Center is a freestanding facility on the campus of Westchester Medical Center, located at 100 Woods Road Valhalla, NY 10595. The Behavioral Health Center offers a full spectrum of inpatient, outpatient, community and emergency care for individuals and families.  Serving a large array of behavioral health clients ranging from children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.

Description:  

This position is responsible for delivering music, dance, movement, art, crafts and/or other expressive modalities and therapeutic activities. The position will function as a member of the treatment team and interact with patients in activities designed to fulfill individualized treatment goals within a psychosocial rehabilitative program and therapeutic milieu.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assure provision of expressive services and therapeutic activities through individual and group programs to attain or maintain the highest practical level of physical, mental, spiritual, and psychosocial well being.
  • Participate as a member of the treatment team in order to integrate expressive activities and socialization as part of the total patient plan of care.
  • Document activities that reflect services provided as the patient’s progress toward meeting treatment plan goals and objectives.
  • Develop a scheduled expressive activities and programming that reflects the assessed needs/interests of the patients; provide culturally appropriate activities, supplies and materials.
  • Develop structured programs that will offer the clients the opportunity to reduce stress, improve mood, increase activity level and social skills.
  • Affirm the safe and secure use and storage of supplies and equipment at all times.
  • Assist in supervision and residential and leisure support of the patients as needed.
  • Assist in planning of activities and daily schedule for Therapeutic Community Aide Staff when there is no creative arts specialist available
  • Perform other duties (not outlined above) assigned.




Skills/Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in music, dance, movement, art and/or other expressive field.
  • New York Creative Arts Therapist license preferred.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of expressive therapy and therapeutic activity programs.
  • Ability to plan, organize, direct and participate in expressive therapy activities.
  • Ability to prepare, set-up, and maintain equipment used in expressive therapy activities.
  • Commitment to enhancing cultural competency.
