Job Description

SumTotal Systems is seeking a Database Administrator (DBA) to work in our Cloud Operations Hosting Operations group. The DBA will be part of a global team supporting and managing multiple servers in a rapidly growing hosted environment in multiple 24x7x365 data centers around the world. Customer environments are deployed on MS SQL, MySQL and Oracle.  This DBA position will be responsible to provide support for MS SQL and MySQL systems.  Some experience with Oracle would be a plus. Position requires participation in a rotating on-call schdule.

The DBA will ensure that the Database systems are optimized for peak performance, will monitor the databases and address issues encountered, work DBA cases submitted through our case management systems and collaborate with other DBA's and our Product Engineers on ways to optimize the product, fix bugs and other issues.

This position is preferred to be located in our Columbus, Ohio office, but we will consider remote candidates.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

•           Specify, design, prototype, implement, and test database related product features.

•           Analyze and sustain capacity and performance requirements

•           Analyze, consolidate and tune database for optimal efficiency

•           Set up data sharing and disk partitioning

•           Develop database utilities and automated reporting

•           Lead efforts to improve the existing software development processes used by engineering.

•           Oversee backup, clustering, mirroring, replication and failover

•           Implement security and encryption

•           Evaluate and recommend new database technologies

•           Lead or participate in architectural design for team and Engineering

•           Work with engineering Management and Architects to define how DB components will adhere to existing strategies, standards, and guidelines 

•           Design and document database architecture.

•           Provide detailed breakdown and estimates of work assignments

•           Participate in maintenance window activities when required.

•           All other duties as assigned.





Skills/Requirements

•           A Computer Science degree or equivalent degree/experience

•           Minimum 2 years of experience in designing, testing, deployment, configuration and support of enterprise database or software applications, four or more years as DBA.

•           Minimum of 2 years experience as a DBA supporting MS SQL or MySQL (preferably, both).

•           Certification in MS SQL, MySQL or Oracle OCP is a plus

•           Knowledge of Microsoft and .Net technologies is a plus

*           Strong problem solving and analytical skills.  Able to pick up and apply techonology quickly

*           Self starter with strong initiative and ability to colaborate with team members around the world.
