Smart Grid Fellow       

About the Position:

The Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy Systems (CSE) is looking for a Fellow in the area of Smart Grids to assist in Fraunhofer CSE’s efforts in distributed generation controllers for power electronics and power systems. The Smart Grid Fellow will report to the Distributed Electrical Energy Systems group leader. The individual will assist in expanding the group capabilities in the electrical energy system field, and learn about the exciting opportunities in this area.

We seek a talented individual with a strong background in power systems, distributed control, and power system simulation. The Fellow will be a key part of a dynamic team that shares a commitment to engineering excellence, combined with an excitement about sustainable energy technology.                          

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and experimentation of distributed electrical energy systems activities at Fraunhofer CSE, including Microgrids, Utility Scale PV plants, and advanced DG control technologies.
  • Participate in contract research activity for commercial and government clients
  • Implement and test control schemes in various software environments
  • Document research results, and present in seminars
  • Learn about the Smart Grid industry, and technical approaches to important energy problems

 

Experience and Education:

The ideal candidate will have the following education, and relevant experience in several of the areas listed:

  • Understanding and simulation experience of low and medium voltage distribution grids
  • Experience with grid simulation tools, e.g., Power Factory, OpenDSS
  • Strong background in power electronics for a wide range of power from mW to MW
  • Significant experience with experimental and simulation methodologies, as well as the efficient combination of both
  • Experience with PV and other grid interactive distributed generation technologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills 
  • Experience leading projects highly preferred
  • Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) or Bachelor’s Degree in EE with at least six months of relevant experience
