Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for organizational development, quality improvement, and overall administration of clinical nursing performance to meet regulatory guidelines and the philosophical goals of the facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Establish and maintain the philosophy of nursing practice in accordance with ethical and processional standards to meet regulatory requirements and the long-range organizational plans of the facility.
  2. Utilizing current research and clinical practice guidelines, develops integrated care delivery system for clinical practice, policies and procedures within the department and as part of the facility management team, and establishes systematic evaluation methods for clinical practice within established standards.
  3. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to implement new programs in a systematic approach to improvement.
  4. Directs recruitment, orientation and ongoing education of nursing personnel in conjunction with the Staff Development Coordinator.
  5. Responsible for completion of performance reviews and delegation of nursing performance reviews, disciplinary action, hiring and termination of nursing employees.  Oversees and approves nursing scheduling of staff for educational programming, paid time off, and leaves of absence.
  6. Establishes and administers nursing departmental operating and capital budget in collaboration with the Administrator of the Home and the nursing department.  Completes ongoing budgetary review of staffing, approves expenditures, and collaborates within the nursing department to improve productivity.  Monitors attendance, and addresses, monitors, and controls nursing overtime and additional hours.
  7. Directs clinical performance of nursing department, acting as a resource to the nursing departmental team in problem resolution and professional development, coaching staff and providing educational opportunities. 
  8. Leads nursing team in identification of clinical performance issues and educational needs utilizing established quality improvement practices. 
  9. Oversees Restorative Nursing program in collaboration with delegated Registered Nurses.
  10. Participates in Pre-Admission Screening process for resident referrals in collaboration with Admissions Coordinator and other professionals to identify acuity and care needs of potential admissions.
  11. Serves as a member of the Quality Improvement (QAPI) Committee, collaborating to meet facility goals, participating in Committee directed activities and promoting nursing team involvement to plan, do, study, and act upon quality improvement initiatives.
  12. Completes goal setting for the management of nursing services in collaboration with nursing team and Administrator.  Monitors, measures, and communicates progress toward goals within the department and as part of ongoing quality improvement participation.  Participates in planning and development of annual and long range facility goals, regularly attending and participating in related committee and program meetings as a member of the Leadership Team.
  13. Communicates effectively with physicians, Medical Director, and outside professionals, and acts as liaison between acute care providers and facilities through ongoing communication and task force membership.
  14. Supports the Mission, Vision, and values of Woodside Senior Communities.
  15. Is knowledgeable of resident rights and ensures an atmosphere which allows for the privacy, dignity, and well-being of all residents/tenants in a safe, secure environment.
  16. Observes care in ensuring the confidentiality of all data, including resident, employee, and operations data as required by HIPAA/HITECH regulations.
  17. Abides by all applicable statutes and regulations through compliance with the Woodside Corporate Compliance and Ethics Program.
  18. Completes requirements for in-service training.
  19. Completes other tasks and duties as assigned.

Skills/Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and  R.N. with a current and valid Wisconsin licensure.   BLS-CPR Certification required.  Must have well-developed communication and organizational skills with the ability to lead, collaborate, delegate and facilitate team building.  Must also possess proven clinical competence in identifying needs and facilitating solutions to complex resident problems, as well as knowledge of current long term care nursing practice guidelines, regulatory requirements, and long term care issues.  Five years of professional nursing practice, with focus on gerontology in long term care, and one to two years progressive nursing management experience strongly desired.
